Sophie La Girafe Handprint Kit and Journal Review

Reviewed by Lauren O’Hara

We were chosen to review the Sophie La Girafe Handprint Kit and Journal. The kit arrived well packaged and presented in a cardboard box with plastic lid. There are two parts to this product, the handprint kit and the ‘Baby’s Little Book of Firsts.’ I will review both separately below.

The handprint kit comes in a tin with the handprint material premade inside. I liked that the clay premade because you didn’t have to measure and mix the ingredients (super easy and no mess!). I decided to make handprint impressions of both my 6 month and 3 year old sons in the same tin. To make the impression you first knead the clay for a few minutes to soften it then flatten it out in the tin with a spoon. I did have to press baby’s hand/foot down pretty hard to get the impression, but this did not seem to bother him. The first impression I made didn’t turn out very nice so I flattened the clay out again and started over. It was a bit of a squeeze to get both handprints in, but I love how it turned out. You could easily fit a baby’s hand and footprint together in the same tin.

I would give the handprint kit a 5/5 due to how easy it was to use and there was no mess to clean up.

The Journal is just under 100 pages long and covers right after birth up until school and beyond. Each page covers a different ‘First including traditional ones (first bath, first smile, first haircut) and not so traditional ones (first accident during a diaper change and first tantrum). There are lots of prompts for each ‘First’ making it easy to fill out. It would be best given to a new baby or before baby is born but I was able to fill it out for my 6-month-old and it was a lovely way to think back on his first 6 months of life. The only change I would make is to have space for more pictures. There is some room for pictures throughout the journal, but I would have preferred more.

I would give the journal a 4/5 because of the lack of pictures throughout the journal.

The Sophie La Girafe Handprint Kit and Journal would be a great gift for a new baby or expectant mother for Christmas or throughout the year. At under £20 it is budget friendly too!
