Outdoor Fun Christmas Gifts Review

Reviewed by Lucy Gwilliam

As a super active family, we were delighted to be offered the chance to review some outdoor products. We spend most weekends at the park or walking in the countryside, so we knew these products would be a perfect fit for us as a family.

I have 2 children, Oliver who is nearly 4 and Heidi who is 7. My husband and I are both in our early 30s and with my husband always being quite active, I have only recently become more outdoorsy, since losing over 5 stone in weight.

The products that I have been asked to look at are suitable for families with children and is a variety suitable to keep any family active.

The first product we received was the Wicked Sonic Booma, this comes in a range of colours and can be purchased from with an RRP of £10.

We were unsure of how to use the product at first, but with a few clicks on YouTube we were soon comfortable with how to use the modern adaptation of a traditional boomerang.

The product arrived really quickly and in perfect time for a visit to the park.

It was a little tricky to get used to at first, but we soon got the hang of it and the children loved listening to the whistling noise it made whilst in the air.

We had hours of fun playing with it and even got it stuck up a few trees, with the help of a big stick to knock it down, we were soon back to having a blast.

What I would say is though that you do need a big space to play with this toy. I had a few near heart attacks when my son threw this too close to some of the building windows at the park.

Overall, a brilliant little gadget to keep the kids entertained. It has become our go to toy to take out with us at the weekend. I would rate it 4.5/5 and definitely recommend it to a friend.

The next product we received for our outdoor review was a pair of Dragon Wings from Enchanted Adventures. These retail at £15.50 and are super adorable.

My son is obsessed with knights and dragons so was over the moon to receive these dress-up wings.

The wings have a wingspan of 108cm, attach at the shoulder and thumb with soft elastic loops and are absolutely magical.

I was actually surprised at the quality of them when they arrived. They are very light and durable, with incredible detail.

I love the idea of these wings, they allow for boys to get involved in wing dress up play. Most companies only provide fairy wings which leaves most boys left out of the magic! My daughter has many sets of wings, so it was brilliant for my son to be able to join her in flapping around the garden and rumbling down hills.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those parents who says boys should wear blue and girls should wear pink, but my son is very boisterous and enjoys roll playing as a knight who lives in a castle, so to be able to be the dragon who protects the castle was just amazing for him.

Overall, we are very happy with this product. It is a much-loved item in my sons dressing up box now and I can’t wait to see more of the situations he creates as a result of this enchanting prop. I would rate it 5/5.

The third company to send us some outdoors items was Heat Holders UK. They had offered to send out a blanket and some wellington socks but when the package arrived, I not only had the 2 items, they had also sent a ladies snugover thermal hooded jacket.

The Snugover was sent in a size S/M so was too small for me, so my niece tried it and expressed how cosy and warm it was.

The Snugover is made from Heatweaver thermal fur fabric, inside and out, making it a truly luxurious item of clothing to keep you warm during the colder months.

The Snugover features a drawstring neck and waistband, funnel-shaped neck and double pouch pockets. It has an official tog rating of 1.4 so is guaranteed to warm up even the coldest of people.

This item is very high quality and perfect for sitting relaxing at home whilst still being stylish. This item retails at £28.99. I would rate it 5/5.

The next item we received from Heat Holders was a pair of wellington socks. I have been wanting some good quality wellie socks for a while now so was really pleased when these turned up.

I have recently started hill walking and this can be quite cold and wet so it was great to try out these socks and they did not fail to impress.

Designed to fit feet size 4-8 and with a tog rating of 2.3 these long length, fold over cuff socks are ideal to be worn with wellies. Whether you’re going walking in the hills, doing a bit of gardening or camping out at a music festival, you will not be disappointed with these socks.

With an RRP of £12.99 they’re extremely reasonable for the quality you receive.

I cannot wait until the winter months now so I can truly test them out. I would rate them 5/5 and I would totally recommend them.

Our final product from Heat Holders was the Snuggle Ups thermal blanket in black.

There’s nothing I love more than snuggling up on the couch with a coat blanket and a good book. I had the couch and the book, but I didn’t have a great coat blanket, well until I received this one from Heat Holders that is.

The blanket measures 180x200cm so is nice and big and great for snuggling up on chilling evenings. The blanket has been designed with the main intention of retaining heat, it has an official tog rating of 1.4 and is beautifully soft and warm.

Made from 100% polyester and machine washable, the blanket is a must have for any household.

The blanket retails at £26.99 and far outshines any other thermal blanket on the market. I’m over the moon with the products I have received from Heat Holders and would rate this blanket 5/5.

The final products to arrive were from Technology Will Save Us. From this company we received a Mover Kit and a thirsty plant kit. The company’s mission is to inspire children all over the world to create new things, to use technology to solve life changing problems and to invent their own future.

I really like this mission statement and believe children should be able to explore their dreams and create things that will change our future.

First of all, the Mover Kit aimed at children 8 and older. I tried this out with my very old headed, intelligent nearly 8-year-old, Heidi.

Heidi loves to be outdoors playing and dancing about. The Mover Kit is perfect for her. She loves science and making things and was really excited when she opened up this box. It has bright colours and a purple wrist band.

The Technology Will Save Us Mover Kit allows children to code their own wristband with flashing lights to act as an activity tracker, toothbrush timer and many more. This product retails at £59.99.

The toothbrush timer was great for us. Heidi struggled with the concept of time so having a visual aid which was her own new cool piece of tech was a great help.

Overall, this kit was a hit and Heidi responded really well to it. I can’t wait to play about with it some more and see what else it can do.

Finally, the Thirsty Plant Kit. My daughter really liked this kit. My daughter is obsessed with science and wants to be a mad scientist when she grows up, so she was extremely excited to get going with this kit.

The aim of the kit is to build a sensor out of Plaster of Paris, electric components and solar panels, to tell us when our plant is thirsty.

With this kit, children will learn how to build their own sensor, how sensors work, how to build an electric circuit, about solar panels and about electricity polarity. This is a great range of topics for children to learn about and this kinaesthetic way of teaching children will help children understand more once they learn these topics at school, putting the learning into a fun experiment is a fantastic idea.

My daughter loved building this kit, it was pretty easy with the help of her dad and they had fun together. She was able to monitor her plant and found it really interesting. She even did a show and tell at school and introduced all of her class mates to this excellent conception. This product retails at £24.99.

Overall, we had great fun testing out these products and I’m really looking forward to what more joy we will experience in the future with them. The website is great, giving you visual instructions on how to get started with the kits and different activities once you are set up. They also have a blog and what seems to be an online community. It’s great! I would rate these products 5/5. Well done Technology Will Save Us, for being innovative and caring about the future of our children!
