So Sand DIY Sensory Studio Review

I have six grandchildren of varying ages and I always try to find Christmas gifts which are both educational as well as being fun for them. As December is now looming nearer and nearer I like to be well organised and plan ahead so that I can get them something extra special.
I was offered So Sand DIY – Sensory Studio to review and I thought that this would make an ideal Christmas gift for Oliver aged six and Heidi aged ten. They love sensory toys which they find soothing and relaxing, especially as they seem to spend much of their time playing on their screens. The So-Sand is 100% ASMR, which is a sensory stimulation with soft, repetitive sounds and is guaranteed to bring a feeling of relaxation and calm. Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response creates a pleasant sensation when we listen to or feel pleasing sounds and sensations.
Oliver found it easy to construct the studio, which is made from colourful plastic. The box contains three separate bags of magic sand, three colours and three bags of glittery decorations, as well as lots of tools, which can be used to shape and mould the sand in lots of different ways. Oliver opened one of the bags of magic sand, added the green colour and some glitter and kneaded the sand until it mixed together. He then spent time moulding and cutting and having lots of fun. One thing I particularly liked is that the colour from the sand did not transfer to his hands. I expected the sand to be quite messy, but I was very happy that this was not the case, as it moulds together, making it very easy to tidy it away in the little plastic pot provided. Heidi commented that the sand felt like candy-floss in her fingers, but without the yukky stickiness. They played together happily for a couple of hours making balls of ice cream sand and lots of other shapes. I can honestly say that playing with the So Sand DIY Sensory Studio was a lovely calming experience for them.
I initially thought that the recommended retail price of almost £25 was rather expensive for what I thought would be just a small amount of sand. However, after seeing the fun which my grandchildren had from this, I realise that it is well worth the expense. They have literally had hours of entertainment and have taken the sand out many times over the last few days.
This magic sand would be an ideal gift for a child with additional needs as it provides a feeling of satisfying calm and relaxation. The sensation of kneading the sand can lower the heart rate, promoting a sense of well-being. Any child, or even their adult would find this sand very therapeutic.
Overall, I really liked the So Sand DIY Sensory Studio. It is suitable for children over the age of six and provides hours of play. It would make a great Christmas gift, especially as it provides so much calm and relaxation.
