Sid, a well-known Cbeebies TV presenter, took to the stage to provide a humorous adventure for children aged 6 and under. The audience was packed with children of various ages who helped Sid in his imaginative adventure. With lots of music, dancing and laughter (not only from the children) this was definitely a show that was worth watching. Sid did his best to entertain and he definitely succeeded, he even remembered that it was us ‘poor parents’ who brought the kids so he added bits of humour for us as well.
For me this was a chance to introduce our toddler to the theatre and I’m sure we weren’t the only ones who had this idea. Normally I would suggest a pantomime as a child’s first theatre production because they have the element of audience participation but Sid’s Show is even better, Sid performs the whole show by himself with no ‘baddie’ to scare the kids and the kids participate with dancing, shouting and pulling funny faces. With the show aimed at such a young audience it doesn’t matter if your little one shouts at the wrong time, it just adds to the humour.
A true performer, Sid came out to meet the audience at the end of the show armed with photographs to sign for the kids (admittedly they had his next tour dates on but it is a treasure for the kids) and he posed for photographs with every member of the audience who waited.
Although The Lowry isn’t on his list for his next tour, hopefully Sid will come back. There were a lot of happy audience members and I can’t wait to take our little boy again. One mother even described the show as ‘stand-up comedy for under 3’s’ but even the older children laughed their socks off through the performance.
Sid’s Show is touring the UK until April 2015. For more information or to book tickets at a venue near you visit www.sidsloane.org.
