Scent Republik CITIES Tokyo Scent Pen Review

Reviewed by Zoey Caldwell

Before I was chosen to review this product, I had never heard of scent pens, now I have they make so much sense, don’t they?

They are so portable, the fragrance pen that I received could slip into a pocket, handbag or even a clutch.

Firstly, the packaging, the pen arrived in a plastic pouch (recyclable) adorned with animations depicting elements of Japan. Cherry Blossom built up cities, and a Japanese face. The design named Tokyo by Yoko Kondo only runs around the middle of the pouch. The font and writing chosen are modern and minimal with the design team describing the scent as invigorating and graceful.

Once into the pouch, the pen itself reminded me of the type of felts my children used to have where you colour with one colour and if you run the white pen over it changes the ink colour. It looks like chunky felt tip pen with the same modern artistry on a sticker around the middle.

The pouch states that there are over 600 applications within the pen. I cannot dispute or agree with this statement as I have only had the product 5 days. The advice given to the user is to trace the pen over pulse points. The scent is a strong one, you would not want to smother the pulse points or you may end up with a headache. I am not qualified to identify individual elements to the fragrance so I will just tell you what they say it is compiled of top notes: Citrus, bergamot and lime. Heart Notes Geranium, lavender and spice and finally the base notes oriental, woody. Oud, balsam and vanilla. When inhaling near the nib of the pen I can definitely capture the citrus elements stated.

I am a 44-year-old mother of 2 and the scent is not for me, as in my own personal scent taste differs and as in the demographic that the pen is designed to in-capture. I think that the scent has been created and graphically designed for girls, girls a lot younger than me. Maybe teenage girls. The price of £12.50 for over 600 applications agrees with this too. It is easily accessible to girls from their pocket money. It is young, trendy, fashionable and I am looking for mature, classic and subtle.

What is fabulous to see is that the company is current and ethical. The perfume is vegan friendly, cruelty free, phthalate, paraben and gluten free – this is something else that I have learnt from the product, that a perfume may contain gluten!?

Christmas is not far away and these cute little items will make amazing stocking fillers for the younger females in your life. The fragrance is part of a range that includes London and Los Angeles so why not go mad and completely spoil them rotten.

The product design and ideal is fabulous therefore I am going to give it a 4/5, the fact the scent is not to my taste is neither here nor there, it is always down to the individual.
