My house has a combination of new and old carpets plus laminate flooring and living with an elderly cat who is prone to ‘accidents’ means I spend a lot of time spot cleaning my carpets and mopping the floors. This has resulted in patchy areas all over my carpets and I thought the only solution would be to replace them. Wrong. The Rug Doctor Flex Clean all-in-one floor cleaner, cleans a variety of floor types including carpets, rugs, laminate, hardwood floors, tile, and stone and after one use has brought my old carpets back to life, not only are they a few shades lighter in colour, they also feel bouncy underfoot and look brand new.
My Rug Doctor was delivered by ao.com who kept me updated on delivery times via regular text messages which I found useful. They delivered at the time they said they would, so I wasn’t left waiting round. Ao.com have a user-friendly website and sell a wide range of kitchen appliances, tv and entertainment products and floorcare goods. I was impressed with the service provided and will definitely use them again in the future.
This brilliant machine is so easy to use, there’s a 3.7 litre tank to fill with warm water and the carpet solution. This clips back in place easily and once you have chosen the correct attachment, you’re good to go. Firstly, I cleaned my stairs carpet. The bottom 2 steps are quite dirty even though I don’t wear shoes in the house. Where does all the dirt come from? The 1.5 metre carpet nozzle is so easy to use, there is a trigger to press when dispensing the water and cleaning solution and once you have worked the solution into the carpet, release this trigger and pull the carpet nozzle back over the freshly cleaned area to suck out the water and more importantly the dirt. It didn’t take me long to get the hang of it and I was surprised at how quickly I managed to do the whole staircase. I had vacuumed the stairs before I started cleaning so was quite shocked to see the amount of hair and fluff when pouring the water away. The dirt had all been removed and my carpet looked instantly better.
The next room for me to tackle was my bedroom. The carpet has been down in this room for about 12 years and round my dressing table area, the carpet was full of hair dye and make up. To be honest I didn’t think a carpet cleaner would be able to remove the hair dye but, amazingly, it did. Again, there is a trigger to press on the handle to dispense the solution and I also selected ‘carpet deep clean’ mode to ensure my carpets were getting the best clean possible. The other mode is ‘carpet quick dry’ which should be used for light cleaning and will be the mode I use next time. The instructions tell you to ‘make 2 slow, wet passes (1 forward, 1 back)’ over each area. I did this 4 times to get rid of the hair dye and did the instructed 2 slow, wet passes for the rest of the carpet, this worked well and again, I was shocked at the amount of dirt removed from the carpet. Because I selected the carpet deep clean mode, my carpets were only slightly damp following cleaning, and it took about 2 hours for them to dry. This would be a great job to do on a nice spring day when you are able to have the windows open to speed up the drying process.
Once I had finished with the machine, I removed all the attachments and placed them in the bath so I could rinse them with the shower. This was a quick and easy job and after leaving the attachments overnight to dry, I placed them all in the bag provided ready for next time.
I have so many good things to say about this machine. It retails at £250, and I think it is great value for money, the machine is great quality and makes light work of giving your floors a clean as good as any professional could. It’s easy to assemble and removes the toughest of stains with ease and leaves the room smelling fresh. The only slight criticism I have is when using the machine in its upright position, it is quite a heavy so probably isn’t suitable for someone elderly or who has mobility issues, but the pivoting handle makes manoeuvring this machine a lot easier especially around furniture and corners. This machine is a great addition for any home particularly those with pets or kids and will leave your carpets looking like new.
