Last night we visited the Lowther Pavilion in Lytham St. Annes to see Rock n Roll Paradise. The Lowther Pavilion was really easy to get to and had a large car-park that was conveniently free after 6pm. This was the first time we had visited the venue and it was a good sized theatre with a large stage.

Rock n Roll Paradise features the music of Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison and the Big Bopper. The Big Bopper (John Simon Rawlings) acts as compere and with his witty banter links all the acts together and turns it into a show rather than just a bunch of 60’s tribute acts.

The majority of the audience were much older than us, probably as similar age to my parents and we did feel a little out of place however once the show started and the music started it didn’t matter if you were 9 or 90 as everyone was enthralled with the performance. My Mum is a huge fan of 50’s music and I was familiar with all the artists having listened to all the records when I was younger. There was plenty of clapping and foot tapping and I sang along to every song.

The first half of the show features Eddie Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis, Rob Orbison, Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper whereas in the second half we just see Elvis followed by everyone on stage for the last couple of songs. This layout works well and in the first half the acts are mixed so you only see a couple of songs by one artist before we swap to another.

The performers were all excellent, not having seen any of the real artists I wouldn’t know if they were true to the original artist but they all put on an excellent show. Lars Young was especially good as Roy Orbison and Richard Atkins as Elvis put on an amazing performance.

We thoroughly enjoyed this show and if you enjoy listening to these artists then this show is certainly worth seeing.
