Well this is an item that caused lots of excitement in our house. "An indoor universe? Really mum?" said my 6 year old. He's been half interested in planets and, as most kids do, has a few books on space in his bedroom library already.
Jamie enlisted his Granddad to "help" construct it which led to some great male bonding and seeing how the planets fit together, via some mistakes, was fascinating for both generations.
As soon as the construction began to make progress it came to life and prompted Jamie to fetch his books, so as his Granddad, armed with the electric drill, negotiated the ceiling, Jamie was able to delight him with the space facts…
The completed planetarium is now suspended on the ceiling in Jamie's room and he loves to switch it on with its remote and watch it revolve – imitating what it does in real life. The warm glow from the central globe (the Sun) is comforting and is easily activated by the remote control… that we still haven't lost!
Overall it's a great educational product, I'm not sure I'd call it a toy but Jamie certainly has had enjoyment from it. And we're very happy to have one.
