We spent a fabulous evening at The One Elm in Stratford-Upon-Avon. The manager, Nathan and his team were very attentive, even as the restaurant started to fill up and they became busy, we were still looked after very well. We booked our table for 7pm when it was quiet, but even so, the bar was busy and people were in the outside area too which created a great atmosphere for us.
The menu presented an excellent choice but as it was steak night we went for that. However people around us were ordering great looking food, the hanging skewers looked particularly mouth-watering!
We chose a starter to share which gave us a sample of a number of items, the creamy mushrooms on toast came in a quirky little tin, not unlike a sardine tin! We also had pâté, caramelised onions, Brie, quiche, rocket salad and a mini loaf which we just loved all presented on a large wooden platter.
The steak came presented, not on a plate but on what appeared to be a chopping board, so unusual but it worked well for the steak. We went for the skinny chips option, salad and the most beautiful blue cheese sauce which we fell in love with. I have to admit there was a lot of food to get through here but we were delighted to be presented with a doggy bag to take the left over chunk of steak home!
For desert we were again presented with another great selection, we went for the chocolate brownie and the strawberry, mint and white chocolate panacotta which was heavenly although rich and I couldn't finish it…
We had a bottle of house white, although I wasn't familiar with the label, I would not expect this wine to be a house bottle, it went down very well indeed and I'd always be happy to go house here in future.
The location very good, easy to find, a small car park but there are car parks nearby.
So overall, the service was excellent, the staff all had top knowledge of the menu and were able to advise us on sauces, types of steaks, as there were lots to choose from and desserts. Nothing was too much trouble and we had a very enjoyable evening.
