Harvester Croft Park Review

Reviewed by Samantha Owen

Recently my family and I visited our local Harvester at the Croft Retail Park in Bromborough. It is located next to the cinema making it perfect for a pre or post movie meal or if you’ve spent a busy day shopping in the retail park. There are plenty of parking spaces available right outside.

Having never been to a Harvester before I was a little unsure of what to expect but my first impression was very good. The restaurant area was bright, spacious and very clean. We were immediately greeted at the door and shown to our table by a friendly member of staff. He explained to us that there was a salad bar and bread station in the centre of the room where you could help yourself and also a drinks dispenser for refills of unlimited soft drinks.

We began reading through the menus, well except our two year old who scribbled on his using the pack of crayons provided. This was a welcome distraction for us while we made our choices. This proved to be quite difficult as there were so many options available. Our order was taken by our very nice and very helpful waitress, Sophie, who was very patient with my indecisiveness and helped me chose a sauce to accompany my meal.

Then we were free to hit the salad bar. This is particularly exciting for impatient people such as myself who struggle with what always feels like a lengthy wait for food to arrive! I was very impressed with the selection and freshness of the salad and dressings available and we all had a generous serving to try a bit of everything. Our daughter was extremely pleased with the soft drink options where you could choose any soft drink and mix it with various fruit flavours and she declared the drinks dispenser as ‘the most awesome thing ever!’

In no time at all our starters arrived at the table. We had ordered king prawns and chicken wings, which were both a good size and delicious. Then it was on to the mains. I had baby back ribs and sweet potato fries which came with coleslaw, grilled pineapple and I had chosen a chilli and ginger sauce. It looked and tasted amazing. I especially enjoyed the sweet potato chips which I will definitely be ordering again in our next visit. It was a massive portion so I was very relieved I hadn’t opted to up size to a full rack of ribs and supersized chips when I’d been given the option. My husband had a burger topped with bacon and chips. He opted for a sticky Jack Daniels sauce on the side which was very nice. Again this was a huge portion. For the kids meals, our daughter, who is 10, had ordered chicken wings, chips and salad fingers from the bigger appetites section of the kids menu. This was another impressively sized plateful which was quickly wolfed down. We had ordered grilled chicken strips with chips and peas for our little boy from the smaller appetites section of the kids menu, this like every dish we were served came very nicely presented and was very tasty.

Unfortunately for me after finishing the massive 2 courses plus salad from the salad bar I was unable to manage a dessert. I was quite upset about this on seeing the large selection of desserts on the dessert menu as there were so many I would have loved to try. My husband ordered the lemon meringue pie and was presented with a massive slab of an amazing looking pie served with cream and strawberries. Our daughter had a make your own sundae which was a big bowl filled with ice cream with little pots containing chocolate sauce and a selection of sweets to add on top. Our son had a lovely fresh fruit salad and ice cream, although admittedly the ice cream was a bigger hit than the fruit for him!

The toilet facilities were very clean and I was very impressed by the spacious and spotlessly clean baby changing room.

All in all we had a fantastic time during our visit to Harvester. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful, the food was well presented, delicious and fantastic value for money. The adult meals were ordered from the evening meal menu which was £10.99 for 3 courses and the kids meals were £5 each. This was our first visit but it will definitely not be our last, we can’t wait to go back and try different things from the menu, and I really want a dessert next time! I would not hesitate in recommending Harvester, Bromborough to family and friends.

It was a definite 5 out of 5 for us.

Rating: 5/5
