How lucky are we!! We were (my husband and I – both in our forties) given the opportunity to go and see Rebecca Ferguson in her live tour at Sheffield City Hall. I can truly say we had the most amazing time. Special thanks to the hosts (Sheffield City Hall), the support acts and the star of the show Rebecca and her group.
Firstly, I would like to go into a little detail about the hosting venue. The City Hall is located in the centre of Sheffield. It is well signposted on the route in. There is an array of reasonably priced car parks close by – just a 10 to 15 minute walk away. Outside City Hall there are many eateries and bars. The building itself is exquisite in design. I was that taken back by the design I have done a little research on google. It is actually a Grade II listed building which was designed by an acclaimed architect – Vincent E Harris. The building opened its doors in 1932. Since this date the building has become a legacy where entertainment is concerned, and this is no surprise as the sound travels fantastically within the venue. Not sure why maybe it is done to technicians or it could be circular design. It is no surprise that Rebecca picked this amazing venue as the contemporary Art Deco denotes pure class. The facilities within the venue were excellent, there was lots of toilets around. The bars offered a range of refreshments and were reasonably priced. The service from bar staff was efficient. All staff we came into contact with were friendly, welcoming and most helpful.
The concert by Rebecca was to promote her new album Superwoman. This is the fourth studio produced album by English singer-songwriter Rebecca Ferguson. All of the words with the songs which Rebecca sang from this album have true personal meanings not only to her personally but to many everyday people as they relate to true life events. The concert gives true meaning to life events and it does make you realise that bad experiences in life can be turned into positives and strength you from the inside. Rebecca is one remarkable lady and I feel the title of the album could not suit her any more, as I see her as an amazing ‘Superwoman’.
Rebecca performed her new single Bones. This is a great song again full of words with true meaning. She sang many songs, such as Mistress, Superwoman which she said she dedicate to her grandmother. This brought a tear to my eye. You very easily get wrapped up into the words of the songs as then start relating them to your life. Throughout the performance she told us when she had written certain songs and where she was and if she was on a low etc. This provided the audience with an insight into her life and makes you realise what she has experienced and see how side came out on the other side. She is a true battler and one truly amazing beautiful lady. Rebecca is a power house, she belts out the songs with true meaning and power. The sound of her voice is roof lifting – in a good way. Her voice is warming, rich, powerful yet tender and with a definite soulful tone – so enchanting and captivating. Such a contrast to her Liverpool accent. I can’t think of anyone who would not enjoy her music. I realised the key is definitely to listen to the words which portray sadness, happiness, emotion and tragic. Rebecca is one remarkably woman who has battle many issues from depression, feeling isolation, battle through pregnancy single handed – a true inspiration to women. She is now definitely on an up and I wish her well and a am certain she is on the road to even more success. Keep going girl!!!
The performance allows you to see her true beauty within. She is elegant and wears the most beautiful outfits that allow her to give a sexy true woman vibe. She owned the stage. The stage lighting was great and her band members all participated in the show, the atmosphere was great with a true party feel. Thank you all got one amazing night to remember. They had the audience in their feet dancing and clapping away. Rebecca sang I’m Every Woman and everyone was up at this point in their feet. I spotted that the drummer was a definite party goer he was always encouraging the audience to join in.
One interesting point I remember was that she mentioned that Sheffield had a true meaning in her life as she spent many summers there as her father originated from there and I believe she even had some family members in the audience.
I should also mention the two support acts they were great, one of which was Max Restaino & band. Max is a singer/songwriter from Sheffield I believe – my 15 year old daughter would have loved this I am sure. We only managed to see a little of the first supporting act. However, she was original and a great singer/songwriter.
My final note is to say if you have the opportunity to go and see Rebecca Ferguson please ensure you do, you will not be disappointed.
Also make sure you visit the City Hall it is a fantastic place and a great venue for many events.
I would rate our whole experience a massive 5 out of 5.
Well done to all, I cannot wait to see Rebecca Ferguson again. I am now totally converted to Rebecca’s meaningful music.
