The bright engaging box shows the jigsaw in its full glory – a 25 ½ cm model of a Lamborghini and the hologram stamped on the top of the box shows it is an official Lamborghini product. This jigsaw is marked as being suitable for ages 8-99, but gives it a 5 “star” difficulty rating (the box shows 5 jigsaw pieces for its difficulty rating!)
This is a fabulous gift for my petrol head puzzle loving son! Him and his dad are besotted by cars and particularly those of the supercar variety!
Over lockdown my kids really got into making 3D jigsaw puzzles. They built Big Ben and St Basil’s Cathedral, Moscow! It didn’t take them that long, as the puzzles are so self-explanatory. They are aged 11 and 7 and together they built them both without any adult assistance.
The puzzles are not like the usual cardboard jigsaw puzzles. The pieces are plastic, but really good quality and durable. Each piece clicks together and so no glue is needed, but the end product is a fairly stable model that could be taken down and rebuilt, just like a normal jigsaw or even lego.
In order to begin the puzzle, you first need to build the 32 piece base – this model comes with working wheels (a nice touch! ) and so you need to build these before starting to build the chassis. There are then 108 pieces of the puzzle itself to put together. These pieces are very well made and again, feel more substantial than a jigsaw and more like a model.
Unlike a jigsaw, each piece is numbered (so there is no need to first find the edges and work out where the pieces are to go!!). The instructions are in pictures and provide a fairly easy to follow guide for putting this model together. Of course, unlike a flat jigsaw, there are corners and edges to fit together and again, the instructions make clear which numbered pieces are to be put together. This is tricky and fiddly at times and will require some perseverance, but I would agree with the age category (ages 8 – 99), as my son and daughter (aged 7 and 11) worked well together to complete this puzzle.
Unlike a jigsaw, which when done, all is left to be done is admire your achievement: with the working wheels, this puzzle can be played with as well. Of course, you can still see that this Lamborghini is made with lots of puzzle pieces at the end, but the final result is most definitely worthy of display on any child’s bedroom shelf!
Given the quality of this puzzle and the time it will take your family to make it, this puzzle is a great value Christmas present at £19.99.
This puzzle is currently on sale at Amazon and Very for £19.99. (Editor’s note – at the time of writing the review)
Overall: Another Ravensburger hit! Combining the challenge of a 3D puzzle with the sleek lines of the famous supercar, this Lamborghini Huracan EVO model puzzle is the perfect gift for any car enthusiast.
