Pregnancy Pillows Nursing Pillow Review

Reviewed by Sally Ellis

I was very excited to be chosen to review a nursing pillow, as I had been breast-feeding my baby son from birth (now 16 weeks old) with nothing but a small cushion, which usually meant a lot of leaning forward resulting in a sore back.

The pillow arrived well-packaged in a clear bag and outer postage bag. It came with a couple of leaflets, a ‘Thanks for shopping with us’ note, general company flyer and some ‘Postures that may help in the last six weeks of pregnancy’. I felt it didn’t make much sense to send this with a nursing pillow and I would have appreciated some helpful tips specific to the item I had bought. Perhaps they just send all their leaflets as standard, but it seemed unusual.

In terms of the pillow itself, I was a little disappointed that I requested the Original pillow in purple (my favourite colour – it looks lush!), which also features lavender scented filling; however I was sent something different, which I can only assume is the Classic pillow in Cream. Of course the adage ‘never look a gift horse in the mouth’ came to mind, as it is certainly a lovely item, however I have trouble understanding the specifics as there is little similarity to what the website describes:

Firstly the outer fabric is stated as Polycotton however the label on the cover says 100% Polyester. Washable nonetheless, so good for when baby is sick! It’s possible they mean outer fabric on the pillow itself, but the website then says Polycotton inner fabric as well, so I was a little confused about the distinction between the two.

Secondly, the filling is supposedly Sensifil™ which the website boasts is anti-allergenic, anti-asthmatic and safe from harmful chemicals. It appealed to me as I am asthmatic and obviously making sure nothing reacts with baby’s delicate skin and sinuses is integral. Nevertheless, again I was uncertain as the pillow label simply reads Fabric: 70% Polyester 30% Cotton, Filling: 100% Hollow Fibre Polyester. I would have thought a Trade Marked name such as Sensifil™ would have been on the label, but it doesn’t mention it. Either way, the pillow didn’t cause any negative reactions!

Despite these reservations about the product, I am rather pleased with the quality of the pillow. The cover is soft and smooth, making it very comfortable and warm for baby. The filling is firm and the overall size is great for baby to lie on and to fit well on my lap during nursing. The whole product is machine washable, imperative for all baby-related products.

Overall, I very much like the pillow, but there are some concerns such as the mistake in filling the order correctly and information on the website being rather unclear. This could probably be improved to better reflect the products.
