Plantronics BackBeat PRO 5100 True Wireless Earbuds Review

Reviewed by Brian Grehan

If there was one thing others would say about me it would probably be that I do love my music and have done for many years. I often like to listen to music using headphones as I do not like to disturb everyone else in the room who may not have the same taste in music as me or who are busy doing their own activities. I have only really ever had budget headphones before with not so great sound quality. I was therefore delighted to be offered some Plantronics BackBeat PRO 5100 True Wireless Earbuds to review.

I can tend to be a bit daunted by setting up tech items as I am a real novice, but I need not have worried at all. It did not take me long to pair the BackBeat PRO 5100 up with my mobile phone. I did this quickly and easily by downloading the BackBeat app onto my mobile phone. I just had to go into the Bluetooth settings on my mobile phone and select the BackBeat PRO device.

I love the fact that the box contains different ear tip sizes. The company really have thought of everything. I did not take me long to find the ear tip size which fitted me perfectly. The earbuds stay securely in place and are comfortable to wear. What amazes me is that the earbuds weigh just 5.8 grams each. How can something so light sound so amazing. More on that later in my review….

I referred to the Plantronics website for more information about the product. I was delighted to find out that these earbuds are their tiniest and lightest ones yet. They fit so snugly but don’t penetrate my ear canal deeply. This was a relief as if they did it would be a concern for me.

The sound quality when playing music is something else, I was blown away. They are so comfortable that I would happily wear them for several hours at a time. I would agree with the Plantronics website that the sound is both deep and rich. According to the Plantronics website, the earbuds have 5.8mm drivers in a snug noise-isolating design. You can have up to 19 hours of power – This is made up of up to 6.5 hours on a single charge and then up to 13 hours of additional listen time between charges by using the pocketable changing case. A full charge for the earbuds takes around 2 hours and a full charge of the ear buds and charging case takes around 3 hours. I was amazed to read on the Plantronics website that if you give the earbuds a quick charge for just 10 mins, this gives you up to one hour of power. The process of the earbuds turning on and pairing with your electronic device is automatic, so no having to switch them on manually or adjust Bluetooth settings on your electronic device.

The ear buds have the following features according to the Plantronics website:

  • True wireless design
  • Noise cancelling mics and windsmart
  • Rich, immersive sound
  • Long-lasting comfort
  • Smart sensors
  • 6.5 hours of power
  • Portable charging case
  • Sweat and water resistant
  • On-ear controls
  • My tap
  • Single or dual use

Making a call is so easy and the sound quality is fantastic. I love this option as my mobile phone is not right by my head when taking calls. The earbuds have built in smart sensor technology and clearly know when they are worn or not. When they are taken out of your ears any music you are playing pauses, when put back in the music then resumes. When they are in your ears, calls are automatically answered.

These ear buds would make a fantastic Christmas or Valentine’s Gift Idea for someone special in your life. They are very much a part of my day to day life now and have exceeded my expectations.
