Peppa Pig’s Count with Peppa Review

Reviewed by Linda Curtain
Having a two-year-old granddaughter who is a big Peppa Pig fan, I was delighted to receive the ‘Count with Peppa’ toy to review.
Being very well presented in a colourful box with clear information about the product and what activities it offers, it was an instant hit with Lola who couldn’t wait to get Peppa out from the box!
As soon as we switched the toy on, Peppa said a greeting to us which delighted Lola. The toy has three different setting modes which are selected by clear yellow buttons on Peppa’s bright red dress. You can choose to play in either the colours or numbers modes which are selected by a sliding yellow switch on the side or you can press another button to hear Peppa sing three songs from the song selection – easily recognisable to a Peppa fan!
The accompanying ten coin discs are posted into Peppa’s handbag through a slot and Peppa will either tell you which colour it is or which number is on the coin according to the setting being used. Another button enables Peppa to ask your child a question and they have to find the correct disc to post through the slot – a good, educational feature for pre-schoolers.

The toy is extremely well made and durable for toddlers. It is bright, sturdy and light to carry around. It stands very steadily and is easy to hold in place while the coins are inserted. The coins are really chunky – ideal for youngsters to handle – with clear illustrations on each side. Each coin is a different colour and features one of the Peppa Pig characters on the front with a clear number also shown. On the reverse of the coin there are objects drawn to match the number shown – i.e. a two on the front has two aeroplanes on the reverse. Great for counting and number recognition. When the coins have been fed into the handbag, it is easy to open the flap and remove them from the bag. Working out how to put the coins into the handbag is great for hand/eye coordination and the tactile fee of the coins was very appealing. I did feel that the coins were quite difficult to feed through the slot and Lola did struggle with this. Maybe this will get easier as the toy is used more.

Another good feature is a two-volume option – ideal for when Peppa’s voice needs to be quietened a bit!
The accompanying leaflet is very clear with a lot of information and clear illustrations to describe the use of each button.
Coming complete with replaceable batteries, I feel this is a charming, well-constructed toy. With a recommended age of 2+, this is a great educational but fun toy with a wide scope of activities and interactive elements.
With the appeal of Peppa and her well-recognised speaking and singing voice, the songs combined with some great educational elements to help with colour & number recognition plus counting and listening skills, this seems to be the perfect gift for any pre-school child.
I would rate this as a 4½ star toy.
