I am a massive fan of Othello as I played it loads growing up so I was incredibly happy to be able to review Othello on the Move which is a foldable travel version of the game.

Othello is such a fantastic game to play – easy to learn and suitable for almost all ages (it isn’t suitable for children under 36 months due to the small parts and that is it). For anyone who hasn’t played it before (you are missing out!) Othello is a strategy board game for two players played on an 8 by 8 board with black and white counters (each counter has both a black and a white side and one player uses the white side of the counters and the other uses the black side). The aim of Othello is to have the highest number of your colour counters on the board at the end of the game which can be difficult to do!

It arrived in a cardboard box and is incredibly easy to set up with a game board, 64 reversible counters and instructions. Nothing else is needed and you just need to put 32 counters in one side of the game board and the other 32 counters in the other side (the game board has a specific ‘drawer’ on each side which you put them in) to set up the game. The instruction leaflet is basically a page as it is not a difficult game to learn although I do definitely agree with its tag line of “a minute to learn…a lifetime to master!” As it is made for travelling you can then fold the game board with all the counters inside and it will fasten together.

This travel sized Othello is ideal to be played anywhere – whether you are travelling abroad and want something to play at the airport or on the plane or you are making the most of this lovely sunny weather and playing it in the garden. It is incredibly compact and light so you don’t have to worry about it taking up much space. It is also really addictive and if you are anything like me then you will want to play again and again until you manage to win!

The only negative is that you get 64 counters (and all of these counters are needed as 32 counters are needed per person each game) and they are incredibly small. This means that you will need to be careful not to lose any as you are not given any spares. Luckily they are easy to see (with one side being black and one being white) so hopefully even if they do fall out of the playing board you will be able to spot them and put them back!

I would definitely recommend Othello and I think that Othello on the move is really good value at £9.99 as it would be easy to take anywhere, the quality of the games board is great so should last you a very long time and it can be played by pretty much anyone.
