I was lucky enough to be gifted an Only Curls sleep turban to try and review. I have more wavy hair rather than a full head of curls but I still like to protect the texture that I have got. I also loosely follow the curly girly method and through my research with that, I currently own a few satin pillow cases that I use to protect my hair. So given this satin sleep turban is a similar concept, I was more than happy to give this a whirl and see how it would protect my hair overnight.
Once it arrived I opened the box and inside was the silky smooth sleep turban. It did look rather large for my head so that was an initial concern. The sleep turban comes in a range of 6 lovely colours most of which are soft, almost pastel colours so will be great as a present as not everyone likes pink. There is also a black one which is probably a bit more discreet if that’s what you are looking for. I was gifted the dusty rose version and I have to say it’s a lovely, soft, rich colour that looks very luxurious, but having looked at the website, I would probably have been happy with any of the colours. The sleep turban is sewn very well and feels very luxurious. It would be a great present idea for a birthday, Christmas or even Mother’s Day which is coming up just around the corner.
On the first night I used it, it was my wash day so my curls were at their bounciest and curliest. A perfect night to test the sleep turban. It’s double material thick and made of satin rather than silk so I was worried it would make my head hot and itchy, when I am already quite a warm sleeper. My husband saw me putting it on and joked that he thought it wouldn’t last all night and would end up ‘popping off’ my head. I have to admit that given it’s large size (material volume, not elastic opening) I thought that my thin, fine wavy hair would never keep this on, but it was fine. The sleep turban stayed on all night, hadn’t slipped down, did leave any elastic lies on my forehead and didn/t make my head feel hot and give me a headache. Result! Now to the all important affect the to curls.
My curls were a little flat but still intact and not crushed in the slightest. They weren’t dried out either which is very important to curly hair. I still needed to do a damp refresh to re-invigorate my curls but I do this regularly anyway. I definitely prefer wearing this sleep turban compared to wearing my hair in a pineapple which is what I usually do, because the refresh routine in the morning after sleeping turban is much quicker and the curls are much defined and less crushed. So overall this sleep turban hits every tick that you want it to. I don’t have a lot of hair, it’s very fine, and more wavy that curly but the bonnet suited me fine. However, if you have loads of hair and are blessed with a full crown of curls, this bonnet would also suit you as there is loads of room in the bonnet. In fact, the sleep turban is probably more suited to someone with a more hair than me as it wouldn’t sit around your neck like it does with me due to the fact that the turban isn’t as full, but that said, it still works fine for me.
As I said, I usually use satin pillows and my reasons are to keep my curls intact, non-frizzy, non-dried out and protected. This sleep turban does all those things too but I my case even more as I do not need to use a scrunchie to put my hair in a high pineapple. It will really come into it’s own when I stay over any friends or family houses, or for holidays when I don’t want to take my own pillow case with me. It will be a perfect travelling companion.
