I’m a big musical fan, I have seen lots, yet, somehow, this one had completely missed me by. I knew nothing of the show at all, not the music or storyline, my friend even remarked today when I was telling her about it, ‘where on earth have you been living Em? It’s a good point and one I’d ask any other musical lover who hasn’t yet seen this fabulous show!

Belinda Lang and Gary Wilmot both star in this hit musical. Lang almost steals the show in her role as Aunt Ella, portraying a very believable older aunt right down to the accent and aged voice! Wilmot plays the wily Ali Hakim with a subtle humour that makes you want to see more of him. Yet special mention must be made to Charlotte Wakefield and Ashley Day for their roles as Laurey and Curley. Both sing and dance through their roles spectacularly and the connection between the characters and the actors themselves really shines through.

Lucy May Barker plays the role of Ado Annie with such bubbly humour that made it good fun to watch her. Last mention goes to Nic Greenshields who played the role of the simple and slightly sinister Jud Fry so believably that I even commented to my friend halfway through that I wondered what he was like in real life!

The song’s are sung and performed spectacularly throughout the show by the entire cast, Laurey’s dream scene was particularly moving, with a wordless musical dancing performance that had us both on the edge of our seats. The set design sets the scene perfectly for the era portrayed and you leave the show yearning for a cowboy of your own to whisk you off into the sunset!

This is the kind of show that you can see over and over and still want to see it again, still pick up on something new each time, it has comedy, romance, murder, history and more and is definitely a show that everyone should see. This particular tour being so full of talent it’s one simply not to be missed!

An absolutely well-deserved 5 out of 5.
