What a game changer!!!!! I awaited the delivery with such anticipation but they couldn’t have arrived at a better time….. 1 day before I was due on ….. Result!! So pre washed (with no fabric conditioner) and I was ready to go. I was so grateful to be able to try these out, they are a bit of an investment and I wanted to know if they were worth it. Weighing up the environmental factors and the use of standard single use sanitary products I wanted to see what all the hype was about.
Puma x Modibodi Active have a range of different period pants with a range of flow options from super light to moderate/heavy in sizes up to 22. I was unsure what size to get as in my experience sports wear comes up on the smaller size. I’m normally a size 16-18ish depending on brand so I opted for a size 18. They fit really well – I thought they could have been a bit more snug but actually they fit perfectly when started to move around and I found I didn’t need to tug and rearrange.

I have chunky thighs and normally find that shorts roll up but these long boy shorts were perfect, no roll up when sitting or exercising. The material felt a cross between active Lycra material and silky knickers. But when wearing felt like I wasn’t wearing anything. I felt at times a bit weird not using sanitary products, as the pants are breathable it didn’t feel right but I was protected throughout the day.
One thing that has put me off period pants in the past was the preconceived thought that the gusset would be big and bulky but these were absolutely fine and didn’t rustle like sanitary pads. I definitely noticed when I changed into normal pants with a sanitary towel it felt bulky and uncomfortable. These will definitely come in handy as a just in case my period arrives when I’m away, on holiday and especially camping trips where the lightweight material can be rinsed out, washed and ready for the next day.

The main features are a longer leg, sporty mesh detailing, and their concealed absorbent technology. Modibodi also say that these aren’t just for periods and can be used for unruly bladders too. These were moderate to heavy flow which is the equivalent to 2-3 tampons.
One thing that concerned me was the instructions mentioned “change when full” but I had to Google what full meant in terms of these period pants. Whilst using and after about 7 hours I noticed that the edges of the gusset started to feel a bit damp so I changed pants. This is normal and is an indication that the pants needed to be changed. This didn’t leave any discolouration on my clothes etc. The pants also need to be changed if they start to feel “full” and I suppose get heavier.
I was also worried about the cleaning of the period pants. The gusset is black so you can’t really see anything. You don’t leave them to soak but instead rinse the pants under running water until the water is clean and then was without fabric conditioner. Once realising that the rinsing etc wasn’t that bad, that I could get stylish pants that were comfy and not bulky, it has definitely changed my views on period pants. I’m definitely a convert and have told my friends about them!
Rating 5 out of 5 – I would definitely buy these again and have already recommended to friends and family.
RRP: £30.00.

These are on the top end of the price range for period pants but when you weigh up the cost of sanitary towels and the environmental impacts I feel that these were worth it. The only thing that they are missing for the money was a free waterproof pouch to place them in for if your out and about.
