Mizzie the Kangaroo is a bright and playful character designed by Aussie parents to stimulate learning and encourage development. The toy range expanded from Mizzie the teething toys success.
We received the Mizzie puzzle box set to review which features her adventures ‘hopping around Australia’ the first of a series around the world. The puzzles come in a good sturdy box with a flap lid and a magnetic seal. More substantial than your usual puzzle box which is necessary when being handled with rough and clumsy little hands. I was immediately impressed with the quality. The front of the box features a cheerful Mizzie on a boat in front of the Sydney Opera House, the animation is bold, bright and appealing and immediately caught my little ones attention. The back of the box shows a description of the product and it’s benefits and pictures of the puzzles enclosed in case needed for prompting.
The puzzles are recommended for age 2+ which is sensible (any younger and the pieces would be used as teethers themselves). The box contains 3 puzzles varying in difficulty (4, 6 and 9 pieces). All the puzzles are 25cm by 25cm and have different sized pieces- the 4 piece being largest and 9 piece being smallest, they will need to be sorted before beginning
We started with the 4 piece, the puzzle pieces were large, made with thick sturdy board and easy to handle, this puzzle features Mizzie in the outback, the bold design helped with matching pieces together and once completed was cause for much celebration, there is nothing quite like the sense of achievement a little one displays after successfully completing a puzzle. The completed works were not allowed to be dismantled and proudly admired until bed time.
The 6 piece is Mizzie surfing at the beach and lastly the 9 piece is Mizzie at Sydney as featured on the front of the box-both of which were equally enjoyed.
The only flaw I can note is that the pieces do not stay connected, the join is of a kind that can be placed next to each other but if you slightly nudge or move the puzzle then it disconnects which was a slight source of annoyance. I imagine the thinking behind this was that it’s easier for little ones to join together but we found it more of a hindrance.
Jigsaw puzzles are so good for child development improving their concentration, hand eye coordination, problem solving, fine motor skills and pattern matching. We also used the puzzle to start a conversation about Australia, what it’s like and where it is.
Mizzie the Kangaroo has the most adorable range of toys including board books, musical books, a music box and of course the teething toy. The website is easy to navigate and helpfully split into baby toys and toddler toys.
The puzzle retails at £14.50 which is a fair price given the quality of the product and its benefits for early development . It can be bought on its own or as part of the Toddler Birthday Gift set which comes with the very lovely Mizzie sound book. I am confident the puzzle will last and be able to be passed on for another to enjoy.
We have had the puzzle for nearly a week now and it has been re-visited many times, nearly daily, each time with more confidence than the last but no less enjoyment. It’s fair to say it’s been a hit with my avid puzzler.
I would recommend this product and all the range to parents and for people looking for the perfect gifts for little ones.
