Gillette Fusion Proglide with Flexball Review

Having stuck with my trusty Mach III razor for more years than I care to remember, Gillette faces the challenge of out-shaving its own perennial favourite with this latest iteration of its Fusion Proglide range. Using a nifty, giant oval-shaped pivot dubbed the Flexball, this new Proglide boasts swivel-action technology that adjusts to the contours of the face utilising a self-lubricating Fusion five-blade cartridge at the sharp end. This cartridge also boasts a rear mounted single blade for neat sideburn edging or goatee outlines.

In action the Flexball-equipped Proglide instantly feels like a safer, more face-hugging shave, especially around the jawline, angle of mandible and neck areas. And where I have become used to a getting a nick or two with the Mach III, especially when breaking in a new cartridge, the new Proglide sailed through to produce not just a more accident-free shave but – in combination with the five-blade cartridge – a smoother, closer shave that required fewer passes to remove the stubble completely. Post-shave razor burn was also reduced.

It may be a bit pricier than Gillette’s older three blade types, but with its ability to closely follow the contours of a man’s stubbly parts, the Flexball-packing Proglide could be just what committed wet-shavers like myself have been waiting for.
