What a fantastic show for little children. My 3-year-old daughter absolutely loved it, along with the rest of the very young audience. The majority of children had persuaded their adults to buy them a flashing/spinning wand that was waved about throughout the many songs performed by characters and presenters alike.
The show began with the Milkshake! Live presenters introducing themselves with the Milkshake! Song. Then Milkshake! Monkey was introduced. The main storyline was Milkshake! Monkey magically travelling through various traditional stories to try to become a Prince. He met many characters from shows shown on the Milkshake! channel on the way including Fireman Sam, Little Princess, Winnie and Wilbur, Noddy, Pip, Shimmer and Shine, Bob the Builder and Whisper. The traditional take on fairy tales included Dick Whittington, Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, Jack and the Beanstalk, Aladdin, Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
The first half was 45 minutes long with a short interval and then a further 35 minutes for the second half. This seemed a suitable length of time for the majority of children in the audience as the young age range can become quite fidgety and distracted.
The children were actively encouraged by the presenters to sing along and join in the actions to songs. The cast members all looked like they thoroughly enjoyed their performances with fits of giggles at times when things didn’t always go to plan on stage. The performances throughout were certainly energetic with lots of choreography for the dance routines which showed very toned presenters (an added bonus for the grownups in the audience!!).
Merchandise from the show was on sale before the performance and in the interval, along with the usual refreshments in the bar area. I was impressed with the Capri Sun lunchbox offer (specifically for the Milkshake! Live performances), at only £1.50 for a lunchbox with a Capri Sun, packet of Pombears and a Penguin bar. It’s refreshing to see affordable treats for children especially when the prices can often be quite inflated on days / treats out.
We had no problem finding a parking space in Ferneham Hall carpark, with reasonable parking charges. Equally there is a multi-storey carpark close by and bus and train links a short distance walk away.
Overall, I would definitely recommend the Milkshake! Live show for young children, with well-known TV show characters and a lively interactive performance, great for an introduction into live shows.
