Detective Alex Cross is back, in book number 19 in the successful Alex Cross series, in a race to stop the death of a family on Christmas Eve and having to save the lives of millions of Washington DC citizens.
Alex Cross is at home on Christmas Eve with his family. Looking for to Christmas day to celebrate with his loving family his plans are ruined when he gets a call and has to attend a hostage situation.
A top lawyer who has fallen from grace has taken his ex-wife, his kids, her new husband and a congressman’s wife hostage and is threatening to kill them on Christmas morning. Fuelled with drugs and well-armed it is a very volatile and dangerous situation.
After the hostage situation is resolved Alex is called to a much more dangerous case involving an international terrorist and must stop her to prevent a disaster at a train station, but the train station is only part of the plan. Alex must get involved in things he doesn’t agree with to get to the main target and prevent death on an even larger scale.
Overall, this is James Patterson at his best. If you are familiar with James Patterson’s style of writing this one is no different with its short, fast paced chapters. It is intense and gripping and keeps you engrossed from start to finish. While starting off with a routine arrest of a church charity box thief it quickly builds up from hostage situation to the intense and dangerous world of international terrorism threatening to ruin more than Christmas.
A very thrilling and gripping read. As always the short chapters keep you wanting to read more and more.
Excellent.
