Summer is here and the sun has finally been shining. So, it’s been a perfect time to test out some Melissa & Doug toys which are ideal for fun in the garden or out and about.
Melissa & Doug are a husband and wife team who have been creating toys since 1988 that are designed to ignite imagination and a sense of wonder in children of all ages. Over the years my children have enjoyed playing with lots of Melissa & Doug toys with many being firm favourites. I’ve always found them to be such high quality and long lasting therefore we were excited to test out the Bug Torch and Buggy Binoculars.
First up is the Melissa & Doug Bug Torch which is recommended for 3 to 10 years. My youngest son was the most excited to try this one out as he often builds dens and loves to bring in a torch for playing. We have quite a collection of them! The Bug Torch is brightly coloured and fun, made to look like a little bug with six little legs. The legs help to keep it steady when it is rested down. It also has a built in handle which makes it very easy to grip especially for smaller hands with an easy to depress button to switch it on and off. Even with the batteries in, we found that the torch is still lightweight and easy to carry. The torch requires two AA batteries (which were not included) and I liked that as well as a screw on the outside and needing to twist it open there’s an added screw inside too that needs taking out to fit the batteries giving me peace of mind that little fingers can’t accidentally get to the batteries inside. Also I didn’t need to worry about my little boy shining it at any faces by accident as the light itself isn’t particularly bright. It’s great for playing over the Summer for dens, evening walks or when we go camping! Overall I think this is a cute, novelty torch ideal for very young children.
Next we tried out the Melissa & Doug Giddy Buggy Binoculars which are suitable for 3 to 12 years. Just like the torch it is bright, colourful and made to look like a little bug matching the torch. These are just great as a first pair of binoculars for small children as I found them to be well made and robust. They are adjustable so will grow with your child and have a string to carry them around your neck. Which is perfect for going on adventures. We enjoyed using these on a walk round our local nature reserve. The lens worked well, my son was in awe being able to see the birds up close. I imagine along with the torch these will get a lot of use over the Summer in the garden.
Overall we love both of the Melissa & Doug toys we’ve tried. I think they are more unique and novel compared to other similar toys. Everything is all high quality and looks as though they will last for lots of Summer adventures. The prices are really good value for money for just how lovely these toys are. My children will enjoy these for years to come.
RRP: £10.99 (torch) and £6.99 (binoculars)
