Lumen Review

I was delighted to get picked to review this item, having been trying to lose excess weight over the last year and being somewhat successful, I was hoping that this would be a great tool to get down the last little bit to my goal.

The Lumen is designed to give you metabolic flexibility and by doing this it can help you to lose weight naturally, snack less, give you energy and mood boosts, improve your overall health, maintain your ideal weight and give you more consistent blood sugar levels.

The Lumen comes exceptionally well packaged and really feels like a luxury product, from the thick sturdy outer box to the well fitting inner compartments to keep everything safe and in its place. Everything has been well thought out and the whole unboxing feels very satisfying.

Inside the box when you open the lid you first see the Lumen device, taking this out and going to the next layer you find a pouch with the welcome information, quick start instructions, a little note to welcome and provide a bit more information about Lumen and further instructions and warranty information. Under this is the charger cradle, charger cable and a travel pouch.

Everything is of a lovely quality, the Lumen device itself feels silky to the touch, it’s smaller than I thought it might be but is a decent weight and feels really nice in your hand. The cap over the mouth piece is a strong metal and clips on with a very satisfying magnet – makes such a nice sound as it clips back into place!

The carry pouch is soft and thick, perfect for keeping your Lumen in when you are out and about, knowing it is secure in your handbag, rucksack or pocket.

The charger dock is brilliant too, big enough that it doesn’t fall off of your desk or bedside table but small enough that it doesn’t take up unnecessary space, it’s also really heavy and has a rubberised bottom so it doesn’t get pushed around by other things and fall. The Lumen sits in the charger and again there is a magnetic attachment so it is more secure.

When you get your Lumen you do need to download an app so having a smart device is essential, either Apple or Android, the app collects all the information from the Lumen device and gives you your own unique insight into your metabolism and how your body reacts to food, sleep and exercise. The Lumen is really quick and easy to set up and connect to your device, it is pretty much just turn it on, connect, breathe and you are done.

The device works by analysing your breath, you breathe through the device, in, hold and out, it then analyses it and gives you a score out of 5, the more you do this the more the device will learn about you, so do a reading in the morning, before and after exercise, before and after food and before bed – if you can of course. The app will then also give you a daily plan which includes food recommendations too. The nutrient recommendations are given as macros (which sounds petrifying) but Lumen is there to help, there is a great Facebook group that I would really recommend joining, with so so many users old, young, just starting out, or been using for a while and then you have the knowledgeable admins too. The app has also recently been updated with a handy food log which is seems to be ever evolving so you can log your food and keep track of exactly where you are.

Over time and once you get used to the device you will get a Flex Score, this is a number that lets you know how good your body is at shifting between using fat and carbs for energy, from here you can get to know how well your body is adjusting to the new lifestyle changes you may have made.

This really is a great little device, there is a lot of information to take in to get started an it does all seem like a LOT to get going with, but once you get the hang of it and fit it into your routine and lifestyle it is really easy and a great tool to aid you in which ever weight journey you are on, maintenance, loss or gaining. There is a lot of help available from Lumen either via the live chat on the app, via email or the facebook group so if you are struggling, know that you are not alone and there are a lot of people ready and happy to help.

Prices start at £249 so it isn’t going to be for everyone but if you do want an extra bit of knowledge of your body and how it reacts to your lifestyle it really is useful to have and easy to use and keep track of. And the bit I know you are all reading this for – I have been using this device now for 1.5 months and yes it is making a difference, I don’t have much left to lose to my target weight and I have lost an additional 3lbs, weight isn’t the be all and end all though, if it can help you to make healthier choices and be generally healthier then I think you have got out of it exactly what you need.
