I like a nice cup of team in the morning……in fact I like a nice cup of tea most times of the day. Tea to me is a like a big warm hug, there are not may problems that it doesn’t solve, it’s a social activity to be shared with others and it’s a chance in a busy day to take a pause. A cup of tea can be very powerful. So you can almost imagine my excitement when I got offered a chance to try out Birchall tea – I was more than happy to oblige. Tea isn’t just a drink to me it’s a lifestyle!

The package arrived very well wrapped and I wasn’t quite sure what I had been sent. I pulled away the bubble wrap to reveal a beautiful tin with the most gorgeous teal design featuring flowers, birds, butterflies and giraffes. The golden lid was marked with the name Birchall which had a real feel of quality, and a label on the bottom revealed it to be the Africa Tea Caddy. With the design by Susan Rose. I was already very happy at this point, already picturing it taking pride of place next to the kettle in the kitchen.

But that wasn’t all. Inside was a box of 80 plant-based teabags. These were the Great Rift blend, which originates from Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. From reading the box, I learned that Birchall have a strong environmentally friendly ethos which means that the tea is carbon neutral, the teabags and the packaging are plant-based/recyclable and the tea factory is solar powered. I believe many consumers now are looking for more environmentally friendly products and I am definitely one of the them. It’s this sustainably conscious approach that wins over my loyalty for sure!

I didn’t hesitate in boiling the kettle. I’m a very fussy tea-drinker. If a cup of tea doesn’t meet my specific preference then I will not drink it, there are no second chances! I like a builder’s brew, quite strong with a drop of milk and a tiny bit of honey. This tea didn’t disappoint. It was a full-bodied taste that gave the punch that I like without having to brew it for too long. I really enjoyed every sip. I’m always afraid to try new brands as they rarely live up to my expectation so it was a pleasant surprise to discover that Birchall passed the test and I will enjoy every one of the 79 cups of tea that I will be making over the coming weeks.

I think the tea caddy along with the teabags is a great idea for a Christmas present. It would be a much appreciated gift for any tea-lover like myself. I especially love the eye catching tin that you get to keep and use long after the teabags are finished – truly a gift that keeps on giving. But for me, I’ve now discovered a tea brand that gives me everything I need and makes me smile whenever I reach for a teabag from the beautiful tin while I boil the kettle.

The Africa Tea Caddy and tea bags can be purchased from https://birchalltea.co.uk/tea-shop/birchall-africa-tea-caddy/ for £5.49; this is part of a promotion where you receive the Africa Tea caddy for free with every purchase of the Great Rift 80s until 31st December while stocks last. For a premium tea I was very surprised at the reasonable price and think that this is a fantastic offer and at the perfect time of year. I give this item a 5/5 for presentation and quality and taste of the tea. The company’s environmental values make this a brand I will go back to and recommend time after time.
