As the only coffee enthusiast in my household, finding the perfect coffee machine has always been a quest for that ideal balance of convenience, style, and of course, the perfect cup of coffee.  Recently, I had the pleasure of experiencing the L’OR BARISTA SUBLIME COMPACT, and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations on multiple fronts.

Let’s start with the ease of use.  The L’OR BARISTA SUBLIME COMPACT boasts a user-friendly design that even a coffee novice like me found intuitive (and no need to follow the instructions!).  From the straightforward setup (fill with water, choose your coffee and insert capsule) to the simple controls (three buttons to choose the size of coffee), this machine ensures that your coffee-making experience is a breeze.  It’s a gift that keeps on giving, especially for those who may not be baristas in the making (I love coffee but it’s an art to make a good coffee even with good beans and I have tried many coffee machines / devices over the years!).

The sleek and compact design of this coffee machine adds a touch of modern elegance to any kitchen.  The brushed metal finish not only contributes to its durability but also makes it a stylish addition to your countertop.  The thought put into the design is evident, and it’s clear that the creators understand the importance of aesthetics in the world of kitchen appliances, especially one that will be on show, as you will be constantly seeking your next cup of coffee!  It is quite narrow, but long, which works well in my kitchen (I did need to rearrange the appliances to create a permanent home (hence not the best quality photographs) as I only have a small worksurface.

Now, let’s talk about the main event—the taste of the coffee.  The L’OR BARISTA SUBLIME COMPACT doesn’t just brew coffee; it crafts a flavourful experience.  The machine’s ability to use L’OR coffee capsules, known for their exceptional quality and rich Flavours, ensures that each cup is a symphony of taste.  Whether you prefer a bold espresso to kickstart your day or a smooth latte to unwind in the evening, this coffee machine caters to a variety of preferences. For transparency, I have not had L’OR coffee capsules previously (I have had the instant variety!) but found the depth of the taste pleasant, and that the “selection box” (9 capsules) as I like to call it of coffee capsules encouraged me to try different strengths and size, I am now fixed on having an espresso every morning!  When the machine is “brewing” it is a lot quieter than the ones I have had in hotels previously, and as I sometimes get up earlier than the family, I was worried it would be too loud and wake my children!  I needn’t have worried, and they sleep soundly even in the next room to the machine!

However, as with any product, there’s a tiny aspect that caught my attention—the length of the power cable.  For me, the cable’s length presented a minor inconvenience.  Placing the machine on my kitchen side meant a bit of juggling with other appliances, especially the kettle.  I found myself having to unplug the kettle each time I craved a cup of coffee, disrupting the seamless coffee routine I envisioned.  However, I soon overcome this and have kept the coffee machine plugged in, and making my family work around the machine, which now has a permanent place on my kitchen side!

Despite this “gripe”, the overall brilliance of the L’OR BARISTA SUBLIME COMPACT overshadows this concern.  If you’re buying this as a Christmas gift, rest assured that you’re not just presenting a coffee machine; you’re gifting an experience—a daily ritual of indulgence and delight.

Another nice little touch for me was the vouchers which came with the coffee machine, they have been happily accepted at my local Tesco’s (where I shop, so I presume they are accepted at other retailers) and this has enabled me to try further coffee experiences.  The only comment here I would like to add is that the expiry date for the vouchers I received were 31-12-2023, therefore if you are purchasing this as a Christmas gift or expecting to drink allot of coffee, then I would make sure you redeem the vouchers as soon as you open the box!  My favourite so far for espresso is the Espresso ultimate, as it’s intense flavour (and sets me up for a gym session in the morning!) and the Lungo Profondo, for a longer drink.  You can buy the capsules at supermarkets or online (https://www.lorespresso.com/en_gb/capsules).

An additional noteworthy aspect that caught my attention is the L’OR BARISTA SUBLIME COMPACT’s dedication to sustainability right from the moment it arrives at your doorstep.  The fully recyclable box is a conscientious choice, reflecting a commitment to reducing environmental impact.  Inside, the minimal use of plastic is commendable, with only two small appliance bags that, unfortunately, cannot be currently recycled.  However, the conscious effort to minimise non-recyclable materials, especially in bulky items like coffee machines, is a step in the right direction.  It’s heartening to see a brand consider not just the quality of the product but also its ecological footprint.

For those with an eco-conscious mindset, this commitment to sustainability adds an extra layer of appeal to the L’OR BARISTA SUBLIME COMPACT.  It’s not just a gift for the recipient but also a nod to responsible consumer choices—a gift to both the coffee enthusiast and the planet.

Overall, this is a 5 out of 5, and a perfect addition to any coffee lover’s kitchen and a perfect gift, for any occasion, but even more so at Christmas when we all want that peaceful moment with a nice coffee.
