London Duck Tours
Reviewed by Dorothy White
Sunday 2 December my daughter, granddaughter and myself had a booking for the 2.40pm London Duck Tour – a 75 minutes tour of London by land and river on an amphibious bus.
We arrived at London’s Waterloo Station in beautiful sunshine, followed the signs for the London Eye, and spotted 3 Ducks lined up ready to go. We were an hour early so asked where we had to go to check in later, we had planned to wander down towards the London Eye & the river to pass the time. The Duck Tour employee was straight on his radio to the office to ask if there would be room on a tour leaving before our 2.40pm booking. We were put on the 1.40pm Titania, and because we were first on the bus chose seats at the front on the left hand side.
Seeing the sights of London on a beautiful sunny afternoon was a bonus. The London Eye, Westminster Bridge with Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, The Cenotaph, 10 Downing St, Horseguard’s Parade, Trafalgar Square, Pall Mall, Green Park, The Ritz, Buckingham Palace plus many other places before our splash down into the Thames. We had magnificent views of The Houses of Parliament from the river, under Westminster Bridge towards the Eye before leaving the river once more for the road, past Lambeth Palace and St Thomas Hospital and our return to base near the London Eye. Fantastic!!! Everywhere we went tourists waved at us or stopped to take photographs of our bus.
Our tour guide was great and very informative, some of the things she told us I knew, but lots I didn’t. Our road driver left the bus before the splashdown to allow someone who was qualified to sail the bus to take over. We collected our road driver as we left the Thames.
As we were leaving the river our guide told us that the vehicle we were on was over 75 years old and had been involved in the D-Day landings!!!
We returned to base with the sun still shining!
An excellent trip which we thoroughly enjoyed and I recommend for all ages – we loved it! We saw so much of London. Seeing London by Duck Tours is much more exciting than a normal tour bus!
