Lily O’Brien’s Chocolate Desserts Collection Review

Reviewed by Charlotte Gatehouse

I have a real sweet tooth; I love my chocolates and desserts and so was pleased to receive a box of Lily O’Brien’s Chocolate Desserts Collection.

The box looked attractive and arrived intact in a padded envelope, the packaging shows descriptions and pictures of the chocolates inside and a message from the company owner as well as the usual ingredients list and nutritional information.

I was pleased to read that the contents do not contain any artificial colours or flavours which is always something I look for when choosing edible gifts.

The box contains 18 chocolates (plenty to share, if you felt inclined) in a variety of 6 different flavours – raspberry infusion, banoffee pie, hazelnut torte, key limey pie, passion fruit posset and creme brûlée.

I was most looking forward to trying the creme brûlée which is a favourite of mine, but they all looked so tempting so I was keen to dig in.

The box is wrapped in cellophane to keep the chocolates fresh and when opened a most delicious smell was released, I knew I was in for a real treat.

All the chocolates looked wonderful, each one a white, dark or milk chocolate cup filled with a different dessert flavour, I couldn’t wait to dive in, perfect for a cosy evening on the sofa.

I went for the Banoffee pie first this did not disappoint and tasted exactly as described, then the creme brûlée which tasted brilliantly of vanilla custard and next the Hazelnut Torte which was yummy praline in white chocolate these were all delicious as I expected. I then moved on to the fruity options that wouldn’t usually be my first choice in chocolate preferring more traditional flavours, but they looked appealing so in the name of research I got stuck in.

I was pleasantly surprised by the passion fruit sorbet which was a creamy white chocolate filling in a milk chocolate cup paired with zingy passion fruit, I loved it and even went back for another. The Key Limey Pie was paired with dark chocolate and was a well thought out addition to the box. My least favourite was the raspberry infusion, nice enough but not as enjoyable as the others in my opinion.

The makers of these chocolates had clearly put a lot of thought and effort into making each one taste just like their named dessert.

It wasn’t long before the rest of the family sniffed out the open box of chocolates and they were soon devoured and enjoyed by everyone, it’s a good job there are 3 of each kind of chocolate, so we could all have a try of the varied flavours.

This would be an excellent Easter gift and would be a great alternative to an Easter Egg. I would be pleased to receive them again and will definitely look to buy these for any special occasion.

At £7 this box of chocolates is a real bargain in my opinion (twin pack for £10), the quality of the item and the appealing packaging makes them feel much more expensive.

I would highly recommend.
