In the run up to Christmas, I am always looking for different and unusual gifts that don’t break the bank and these products all fit the bill.
I love the Wicked Sky Spinner- it is a trick disc that can spin at 500 rpm. The one I received was bright yellow in colour so easy to find. It has minimal cardboard packaging making it easy to open, though open the box carefully as it has the getting started information printed on the inside of it. The disc itself is hard plastic with a crank on the underside to get speed up and a finger hub where you can get it to spin on your finger. It has created hours of fun and practise to perfect some of the tricks.
It is recommended for age 8+ and it really is suitable for adults too, it would actually be a great Secret Santa gift. It is best used in an open space as it could do some damage! It is definitely budget friendly at £10 RRP and as a robust disc with no part it will last for a long time.
The Duncan Pulse Light-Up Yo-Yo is a modern spin on a traditional toy. I’m sure we have all had a yo-yo at some point in their childhood, but not like this! This is a light up yo-yo that changes colour and flashes as it spins.
The plastic packaging is difficult to access and not child friendly. The technical bit is that the axel is made of ball bearings so it spins for longer. Combined with its aerodynamic design it gives more time and options for tricks. I have to admit that I never really mastered the yo-yo first time round but my children (and husband!) put me to shame showing me how it was done…. It really is quite addictive! Videos showing additional tricks and ideas can be found at www.yo-yo.com. With an RRP of £13 is it reasonably priced. It has a 6 years + age guidance due to the string on the yo-yo from a safety perspective. The battery which powers the light can be replaced when is goes flat, extending its life.
For getting active this Christmas, the UKick is ideal- ‘kick it hack it whack it’ is its tagline. Sounds ideal for relieving some of the current Covid stress!
The UKick is a base where up to 5 of the included weighted discs can be placed before inserting the 4 brightly coloured feathers, you are then ready to play! I was sent the Mad Dog version with pink, green, yellow and white feathers but other colours options are available. The QR code on the box takes you to www.ukick.co.uk where there are pictures and videos of moves you can do with the UKick. There are also some games ideas such as darts. You can buy a dart board from the website but we drew a chalk dartboard on the ground and had just as much fun! Admittedly I was rather sceptical about the UKick but it actually was great fun and suitable for all ages 6 + as recommended on the box. Sensibly priced at £8, it would be a great addition to any stocking this Christmas.
