Lee Nelson Live at the Lowry Theatre Review
Lee Nelson Live
Lowry Theatre, Manchester
Reviewed by Colin Rogers
When I heard Lee Nelson was performing at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester, I couldn't wait to try and get my hands on some tickets, which I was luckily enough to get.
We parked in the nearby NCP car park which was only a 5 minute walk from the theatre. We entered the Lowry and collected our tickets from the box office, they even validated our car park ticket so it was free parking which was a bonus.
My friend and I were a half hour early for the show, so we took the chance to check out the bar area… as you do! We were given plastic bottles, so we could take them in the theatre whilst the show was on. We even bumped into a few friends who were also attending the show, it was good to see that I wasn’t the only Lee Nelson fan amongst my friends.
We got called to take our seats as the show was about to start, so we grabbed another beer and headed in.
As we went to our seats there was jungle/house music playing into the room to set the mood for the show, it was packed full of a full range of people of all ages which was quite a surprise as I expected him to be aimed at a core of a 'younger' age range, but there was a couple in their 60's, who later took part in a game in the show.
Lee Nelson arrived on stage and the crowd went wild, which was a good sign we were in for a good night.
I haven't watched him on the TV for a while but he was amazing live. Some of his jokes were a bit crude and not for the faint hearted, and things were said that you wouldn't hear on the TV even after the watershed, but it just made his show that much better and had us rolling around in laughter.
He also did a few of his characters off his show like Jason Bent, a take on your everyday football player. This has to be the best stand up how I have ever been to, he is QWALITEEE.
The 1st half was 45 minutes then we had a 20 minute interval.
Then it was back to the show, where it was Lee Nelson as himself, and interacted with the crowd, taking the mickey and bouncing off what was said, the banter was fantastic, he even put a heckler in her place which was highly funny.
As the show drew to a close, which was a relief… I was hurting from laughing so much, he did an encore and told us that he would meet us all by the box office for autographs and photos, which was really good of him, he also had a stall selling his T-shirts, DVDs and caps.
We waited for him to come out and had a chat and a photo, he was really nice in person and he wasn’t anything like he was on stage. It was nice to see a celebrity happy to talk to everyday people. He even touched fist as his sign of 'respect' like teenagers do!
Lee Nelson is a Leg-end and I can’t wait for his next show as I will definitely be there. Even my friend thought it was a fab show.
A qwaliteee show and if you get the chance to go then I’d say get your tickets booked now… I would highly recommend this show.
A massive laugh out loud 5/5!
