I have been a fan of Lee Hurst since he appeared on They Think It’s All Over several years ago, so I was pleased to have to opportunity to see him perform live at The Lowry Theatre in Manchester.
Once we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly ushers, who showed us to our seats.
Lee began the show by explaining why he had cancelled or postponed some dates on the tour. He had suffered from a hernia, which was a very eccentric explanation, leaving the audience entertained and amused. As we broke for the interval he asked the audience if they could write some things down that really them annoyed them and pop it in the bucket provided. He also asked if people could put their email address on another piece of paper. This would be drawn at the end of the show and the winner would receive a free pair of tickets for his next tour. I found this a really good idea and the lady who won was delighted.
After the interval, Hurst returned to go through the ‘Things that make you go aaarggh’ suggestions. These included middle lane drivers, David Cameron and next-door neighbours. He interacted very well with members of the audience, sometimes putting his foot in it. For example, one boy said that balloons annoy him so Hurst responded ‘how do you get on with condoms then?”. To which the boys mum replied ‘He doesn’t!’ which created a buzz within the audience. We all found it quite amusing.
Some of the jokes Hurst made towards the end of the performance were rather risqué, however the adult audience responded well with laughter all around.
I had an excellent night, and would definitely recommend this show.
Lee Hurst’s Things That Make You Go Aaarggh! is on tour around the UK until 18 May 2014. For more information or to book tickets visit www.leehurst.com/tour.html.
