This toy exudes excitement as soon as you look at it. The bright colours are so appealing and I love a toy which is educational. The Leapfrog Pick up and Count Vacuum is suitable for children from two to five years old. The Vacuum is packaged very securely in its box. It took me quite some time to remove it from the ties and plastic clips to get it out of the box. There was some assembly required to fix on the handle and the dust/disc collector on the back. Once this was completed the vacuum was ready to play. I would recommend unboxing and assembling prior to giving the toy to your little one as they might get a bit impatient waiting.
Leapfrog is a long established manufacturer of educational children’s toys. Their website says ‘LeapFrog is 100% focused on developing products that will provide the most engaging, effective learning experience – for all ages, in school or home, around the world.’
The vacuum is bright green with a grey handle and yellow wheels and control buttons and a black dust/disc collector and ten dust/disks coloured red, blue, yellow, green and orange. It measures approximately 63cm high. Batteries which power the music, lights and speech elements are included, although the information leaflet does say these will need to be replaced as they are for demonstration purposes only. The design looks just like a real vacuum cleaner and has a mid section with spinning balls that mimics the dust collector. Little ones will love to copy mummy/daddy with the cleaning although this is only a small part of the fun of this toy.
The vacuum has three different modes to help with teaching numbers, counting and colours. There are also six learning games to play. The vacuum cleaner picks up the coloured dust discs and they pop into the dust collector on the back. There is a level of dexterity required to achieve the required outcome so this encourages motor skills. As the discs are collected the colour is spoken and it also counts the number so your little one can be encouraged to copy and learn colours and numbers too. There are five colour panels which light up and match to the coloured disks.
The different modes are accessed by turning a dial to select numbers, colours or pretend play mode. Each game teaches in a way so that learning is easy and fun.
Leapfrog produce a wide range of toys all designed to encourage learning and development with the focus on fun. Their website says ‘We believe that a child’s development is a continuous journey that happens one spark, one discovery, one success at a time. Every adventure, every lesson, every curious moment expands a child’s knowledge and imagination, building to a greater confidence and passion for what comes next.’
To find toys that are learning and development focussed is great. This toy will provide many hours of fun and play. It can be used by little ones when playing on their own and also with parents who can join in the fun and games.
