Aldi Picnic Food Review

Reviewed by Lisa Wilson
I have to say we don’t usually shop at Aldi and that’s only because I’m lazy and get my shopping delivered so I don’t have to drag the kids round with me but when I was asked to review the Picnic Food range from Aldi I couldn’t refuse. What a perfect way to start the summer.
We had a £10 voucher to help towards our picnic food on the Aldi website their is a page dedicated to picnic food (cheese, meat and snacks) so we knew what we could get.
The first item I chose was the 16 pack of cheese slices, priced at £1.39 which I thought was great value and my kids love these so this makes a great option for sandwiches or just to eat on their own. Holly my eldest ate these and said how nice they were, she liked the flavour as they weren’t too strong and had a nice smooth texture to them. With a 16 pack we had plenty for seconds and still had some over from a family of four.
The second item was the flavoured cheese slices, my husband chose the cheese and chive flavour at £1.29, for this we got 8 slices. This was quite a strong tasting cheese with lots of flavour, great for picnics and not processed. My husband enjoyed it that much he only left one slice for me, and we will be buying it again.
The third item was Breaded Wiltshire Ham £1.79, now this I loved. So fresh, full of flavour and no fat in it, I don’t know about you but I hate fatty ham so this made a nice treat. We had this on the Sandwich Thins priced at 75p for 6 and they are only 100 calories per thin, they make a great healthy option to normal bread, these will definitely be on my shopping list again and really good to take on picnics. My girls loved them because they have no crust on so they eat the whole thing making them full with no waste.
We also got the British BBQ chicken fillets at £1.99, these are lovely hot or cold. These are proper fresh chicken with no bones and a lovely delicate bbq flavour. The whole family loved these so much we bought another packet and had these hot for tea.
The mini savoury chicken kievs at £1.29 also made a nice change for a picnic, something I wouldn’t have thought of. These were a bit like scotch eggs but instead of egg in the middle they had a creamy garlic sauce, again these were nice hot or cold and make a good alternative to scotch eggs.
Last of all we got the crispy bake pork pies at just 89p, again great value for 6. The outside was lovely and crispy as they state and the lovely pork filling inside, just perfect for eating cold out and about.
Overall we enjoyed our picnic and all of Aldi’s food and we will be shopping from here in the future, great value for money and fresh and tasty too.
So this summer why not take the kids to the park or beach for their own picnic and enjoy the nice weather with some great tasting food at great prices.
