La Tasca, Aberdeen Review

La TascaLa Tasca

La Tasca is a Spanish themed chain that hopes to bring a feel of Spain and it’s cuisine to the U.K.

In Aberdeen, La Tasca has recently reopened following redecoration and a menu revamp. It was on this first night that we went for a meal.

The restaurant is situated on Union Street, the main high street and therefore finding it is easy. There are numerous public car parks around but I would recommend taking a bus or a taxi so you can enjoy the whole experience, including the sangria!

When entering the restaurant you’ll find a bright and colourful setting that really evokes the Mediterranean. Some of the tables have benches with bright coloured cushions for seating and it is really a good place for a big group celebration.

Although it was the re-launch it was also one of La Tasca’s salsa party nights and there were many people who seemed to be regular customers. The restaurant had a large dish of paella cooking near the door to entice people in and the aromas were wonderful!

After our sample of sangria we were seated at a little table for two in a raised part of the restaurant that gave us a perfect view of the festivities later on.

The restaurant is well maintained and the staff obviously takes pride in keeping it so. We didn’t see many dirty tables as once the customers left they were cleared away to make way for the next diners.

The night we went it was very busy and we were lucky to get a table so I would suggest booking in advance particularly if there is a big group of you going. It therefore took a little while for us to have our order taken.

We decided to go for 4 tapas dishes for a lighter option but there were many options included for starters, main meals and desserts. We had been greeted by the manager earlier in the evening who was very proud to tell us that where possible their produce is all sourced from Spain and shipped over to the UK so it is all authentic Spanish food.  There were good options for all diets and those dishes that may have been a problem for food allergies were clearly labelled.

When ordering our waitress was very helpful and pointed out her personal favourites and was able to tell us what it was about them she liked. We took her recommendation and went for the slow cooked pork cheeks (CASTILLA Y LEÓN) which were delicious and a bit like pulled pork but with a richer flavour.

After we ordered the salsa lesson began. There were two couples acting as instructors and a group of 20-30 people of all types getting up and having a go. The music was a little loud and even though we were sat quite close it was at times difficult to talk so if you want a nice quiet evening out do not go on the night the salsa party is being held. In contrast if you want a fun enjoyable evening with friends and with the opportunity to meet new people then I would recommend the salsa party it looked a lot of fun.

The food arrived all at the same time which was nice as sometimes in busy tapas restaurants that does not always happen. The portions were just right for the two of us and by getting the four dishes we were able to sample a little bit of everything.  When we had visited La Tasca before the food had been okay but seemed very processed and was rather heavy. This was not the case after the re-launch and every dish was really delicious and very tasty. It wasn’t fine dining but that is not what you should expect if you go to La Tasca. You should expect honest, flavoursome food and that is what we got.

When it came to leave the salsa party was in full swing and the sangria was flowing. La Tasca seems to have gotten the right recipe for a fun, satisfying evening for whatever you are looking for. There were a number of large groups who were thoroughly enjoying the salsa lesson and the paella while there were small family groups enjoying a nice evening out.

We will definitely be going back and would recommend it to friends and family.

I would rate it 4/5 but only because the music was a bit loud if you are not there to salsa.

Rating: 4/5
