Kozi Kidz Regn Kappa Rain Coat Review

Reviewed by Keith Ashworth

We were really pleased to be asked to try out and review one of Kozi Kidz new products, the Regn Kappa rain coat. My eldest granddaughter was delighted to be the lucky recipient.

We have had Kozi Kidz items before, and have always found them to be of absolutely top-notch quality and appearance. The other Kozi Kidz items I have had in the past have worn well and have had some super design features built in, so we had high hopes for this product.

The Regn Kappa comes in a range of colours, so I would say it was suitable for a boy or a girl; my granddaughter chose pink with white spots. Our first impressions upon opening the packaging were that we were impressed. My granddaughter loved the colour, it isn’t a bright neon pink, nor is it a wishy-washy powder pink. It looks bright and funky enough for the kids to like it, but was also attractive to grandparents’ eye.

As has been the case with other Kozi Kidz items we have had, the standard of this product was excellent. The material is waterproof, but is much nicer than the plastic-like material that lots of waterproof coats are made from; it doesn’t make that swooshing noise when worn, and feels much softer. It is a lightweight raincoat, so is not fleece lined; the kind you would wear over the top of a layer or two.

The coat fastens with a high quality YKK zip, which was smooth in operation and glides easily enough for young fingers to operate. There is then a flap the folds over the zip with Velcro and popper fastenings. These work really well to keep the wind, chill and wet out.

The coat has Velcro cuffs at the bottom of the sleeve, and when gloves are worn, this creates a good seal to stop draughts getting into the coat. The hood is totally removable with poppers, and I’m pleased to report that the coat looks just as good without the hood as it does with the hood. Lots of hoods on rain coats seem to be added as a functional afterthought and look out of place – this one doesn’t, it looks great. It also functions fantastically, and the little peak on the hood is a fantastic little feature to keep the rain off little ones faces.

Given that coats like this will very often be worn on dark autumn and winter afternoons and evenings, I was really pleased to see reflective patterns in several places on the coat, just another little bit of good design that Kozi Kidz seem so good at.

The pockets are deep enough for a child sized pair of gloves, and again have flaps and poppers as part of the design to stop things getting wet or going missing.

We haven’t actually needed to wash the coat yet, but as I’m writing a review, we ran it through the wash. The washing instructions are clear, and we followed them. We washed at 40 degrees, didn’t use fabric softener, and dried it flat. It looks as good as it did when it was brand new.

I normally go up a size for items like this, to allow for wearing a fleece underneath, however, my granddaughter is a big 5 year old and we ordered 5-6 (120cm). I’m only pleased we didn’t order up a size as these are really generous, they already have room for layers underneath built into the sizing, as well as a bit of growing room.

This is an absolutely fantastic coat, and very reasonably priced for the quality. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone in the market for a waterproof that looks good as a coat as well as being very functional.

I have to award a rating of 5/5 for this, it’s a fantastic product from a brilliant company.
