The Barn Beefeater Milton Keynes Review

One would expect the Barn by its name to have a rural setting. However it is situation in the heart of Central Milton Keynes, a short walk from the shopping centre and a stone’s throw from the Xscape. In spite of its proximity to a variety of restaurants and bars, on the evening we visited it was very popular and almost every table was full.
On arrival we were welcomed and shown to our table. The pub/restaurant is in a building with the feel of a barn, however it is hardly compact or cosy as it has several levels with stairs leading to each level. The top level possibly feels like the loft of a barn. The staff seem very energetic having to walk up and down stairs on countless occasions often carrying a tray of food or drinks. During our visit we did not witness and dropped or spilled.
In an area surrounded by modern dining establishments it’s almost comforting to find somewhere as traditional as a Beefeater. You can even find that staple of the 1970’s of prawn cocktail for starter followed by steak and chips followed by black forest gateau, all on the menu. They even have their mixed grill among the options. One piece of advice is pay the extra for the Ultimate fries they are far nicer than the normal chips which of course are bottomless which means you never run out as before you have emptied one bowl you are offered a fresh bowl (all included in the price).
Although they were very busy the service was good and the meal served fairly quickly. Our waitress was friendly even though she has some large tables to serve. There is also an excellent choice if wine and drinks available.
There is something about the food which makes you want to return again and again and we certainly will return if we are in Central Milton Keynes.
