I was lucky enough to catch the musical Jersey Boys at the Mayflower Theatre is Southampton last night. I’m so glad I did as their voices were sensational. The story they told was captivating and they all played the parts so well.
I wasn’t aware of the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, but the show told it perfectly – Jersey Boys tells the true life story of four boys from the wrong side of the tracks who wrote their own songs, invented their own unique sound, and sold 100 million records worldwide. As mentioned, although I didn’t know the story, surprisingly I already knew a few of their hits and was able to sing along. Individually the 4 main band members were all fantastic, but together they were something else. Absolutely amazing. They all deserved the prolonged applause they got after they belted out yet another note perfect hit.
By the end of the second half you really understand all sides of each of the characters and the reasons behind their actions and decisions over the course of their career. It was captivating to hear what each of them were doing in recent years too.
I’ve been singing the songs all day today and will definitely catch the show again if I get the chance.
It’s the first time I have visited the Mayflower Theatre after its renovations, and I am very pleased that it is kept the grandeur and the new colours are great. It is always a pleasurable visit with staff friendly and helpful.
