If You Were Me and Lived in… South Korea by Carole P. Roman Review

If You Were Me and Lived in… South Korea is one of a series of books from acclaimed author Carole P Roman. With a target range of 4 to 8 years old the series provides a colourful and informative guide to a large range of countries across the world in just the right format for young minds.
This particular edition is about South Korea and starts by pointing out where the country actually is on the world map. Beautifully illustrated the book goes on to highlighting the countries capital, the food and the Korean words for mummy and daddy. It then delves deeper into the Korean culture with a glimpse of their traditions, special holidays and hobbies. It is all done in a concise and clear way ideal for young children. Each page has at least one Korean word worked into the dialogue with its meaning in English making it a fun way of learning another language.
At the rear of the book is a pronunciation dictionary of all the Korean words in the book. This is a really great idea and adds an extra dimension.
My son is too young to read this book for himself but we read it together and he enjoyed going through all the illustrations as I explained what was going on. The pictures are so colourful that they engaged him into listening and wanting to know more. I used the book to show him on the globe the area we were talking about as one minor criticism I have is that the map at the front shows where South Korea is but not where it is in relation to other countries, e.g. which countries are next door.
A good informative book that explains a lot in only 24 pages. Highly recommended and we will be on the lookout for other book in the series.
