We received Horrid Henry’s Tricky Tricks by Francesca Simon for our 9 year old daughter to read and review, she is already a fan of the cartoon series of Horrid Henry and was very eager to read about his (mis)adventures.
The book is hard backed and has a colourful dust jacket and is a celebration of 20 years of the series of books, it contains 10 stories about Henry and his antics with his purple hand gang.
Of the stories inside, my daughters favourite was “Horrid Henry’s Autobiography” in which Henry’s class each have to write an autobiography for the local newspaper, Henry substitutes his Nemesis, Moody Margaret’s, work for a made up embarrassing piece, but unknown to him Margaret does the same with his work, so they end up hating each other more.
The stories are entertaining shorts of around 20 pages each and are illustrated by the artist Tony Ross, they are a perfect length for a bedtime story or for those who are developing their reading, my 7 year old daughter also enjoyed reading some of the stories too.
Being hard backed and with an RRP of £12.99 I feel this is a bit expensive for casual child reading, but it is a wonderful collector’s edition for fans of the genre and would make a nice Christmas present
My daughter rates it a 4 out of 5.
RRP: £12.99 (hardback)
