Harvester Castle Marina Nottingham Review

Reviewed by Debbie Lowndes

I was asked to conduct a review at a Harvester restaurant. The review was for three adults and one child. My husband, son (18), daughter (14) and myself attended the Harvester at Castle Marina, Nottingham for 12:30 (agreed time). The Harvester was very easy to find and in a great location. It is close to the retail park for a spot of shopping and also conveniently located to the canal for a spot of walking. There was also marina close by so you could browse around the boats and barrages should to wish. We parked up easily within the car park, which was roomy and provided adequate space. We entered the building and were instantly greeted by a polite member of staff who asked if we needed a table and for how many it was for. I confirmed that we had a booking and we were then given a choice of seating either a booth or a table. We optioned for a booth.

We all sat down and the waitress arrived and introduced herself and provided us with menus in order for us to make our choice. The menu provided a huge range of choice from steaks, fish, chicken, lamb as well as vegetarian options just to mention a few.  The prices were reasonable and I would say they are pretty average and not overpriced. We also studied the drinks menu, this offered a range of alcoholic beverages and soft drinks. The soft drinks provided the option of unlimited refills, via the drinks dispenser. This is great as you can top yourself up whenever needed. Once again the drink prices were very competitive. The waitress returned to our table and we placed our order. My husband and I optioned for steak, my son decided on a mixed grill and my daughter had a selection of chicken. The waitress asked how we would like our steaks cooked and we both advised well done. At Harvester you generally pick a grill, then a side and sauce and you get free salad. We all had chips for our sides. In relation to the sauces we opted for 2x peppercorn sauces, 1x salsa and one sour cream and chive. We ordered a couple of extras these were onions rings and cheesy garlic bread. Our drinks orders were 2x Carling lagers and 2x diet Pepsi. Our drinks and glasses arrived very promptly, you could not fault the service so far. The waitress also came and provided our salad bowls and informed us we could help ourselves to salad whenever we were ready. My son and daughter quickly made their way over the salad bar to make their selection. When they arrive back at the table they had salad and a bread roll.

My husband and I also went to the salad bar and made our selection, there was a wide range of choice at the salad bar and it all appeared to be fresh and well stocked. There was a choice of white and brown rolls and a range of sauces with serving spoons. The salad bar was well presented and hygienic.

Whilst we were awaiting our food I took a moment or two to take in my surroundings. The restaurant was buzzing with customers, there were families with small children, couples and larger families, grandparents, parents and children. All customers were being looked after by the staff and they regularly attended tables to check everything was o.k. and if more drinks etc… were required. The decor in the restaurant was pleasant and attractive to the eye and cleverly design. It was modern there was a range in lighting which created a nice feel and atmosphere. The tables all had marble tops these shone and looked attractive. There was a range of differing seats and these all fit together really well to create an overall stylish venue. The bar area was well stocked, welcoming and once again attractive looking.

The waitress came to the table with our food, it looked delicious. Now for the test does it taste as good as it looks? Firstly all of our food was very well presented, warm and smelt amazing. My steak was cooked to perfection and tender. My son’s mixed grill comprised of a sausage, steak and gammon. My daughter’s triple chicken offered a range of chargrilled chicken breast, southern fried, and a 1/4 rotisserie chicken. We all enjoyed our sauce selection. The chips were good too. The extras also arrive with the main meal and these were delicious. The service could not be faulted all the food was fresh, hot, tasty and there was plenty of it. We all enjoyed our selection for the main course.

Once we have finished eating the waitress efficiently cleared our table and asked if we wished to order desserts. We advised we would take a look at the menu and then decide. We studied the dessert menu, I found it tricky to made a choice as there were lots of tasty naughty things to choose from. We all optioned for desserts and our selections were Lemon Meringue Pie, Cheesecake Crisp and Crunchy, Banana Stroopwafel sundae and a Rocky Horror sundae. All of the desserts were absolutely gorgeous and well worth being naughty for! The desserts once again were well presented and all arrived together. We all manage to squeeze then down, but we were all extremely full by the end.

I also took the opportunity to utilise to public convenience whilst at the restaurant, these were well signposted and very clean and hygienic. Well stocked with toilet paper, hand soap etc… These were regularly checked for cleanliness and there was record in full display to the general public.

All staff encountered at the restaurant delivered good customer service skills, were very presentable, friendly and extremely welcoming.

I would like to thank Harvester for a truly delightful and delicious family meal, we will definitely be visiting again in the not to distant future. I will also be recommending to my friends and family.

Another interesting thing about Harvester is they also do a take away menu, who knows I may have to give this a try one day.

I would rate my experience at Harvester as 5 star.
