Hansel and Gretel at Derby Theatre Review

30 November 2018 to 5 January 2019

Mike Kenny’s adaptation Hansel and Gretel is family entertainment and so much fun. Get in the Christmas mood and follow the trail of breadcrumbs and go and see the Christmas 2018 production at Derby Theatre.

Hansel and Gretel is based upon the original fairy tale of an ordinary boy and girl who successfully beat the monster without any assistance of their parents. The performance is both captivating and hilarious.

The performance was scary, but not too scary for kids. All the surrounding kids in the audience seemed to be in enjoying themselves, and so did the parents!

The performance consisted of a group of actor-musicians who did the performance proud with exquisite singing, instrument playing and fantastic acting. The actors ranged within age and it was evident that they worked well as a team. They were amazing, and the performance was top class from start to finish.

Stage setting were colourful and fitting for the fairy tale performance. Likewise, the costumes were top class and looked great on stage, the lighting was spot on and added to the performance.

We thoroughly enjoyed the performance from start to finish and I would recommend that you get to this performance as it is not to be missed.

Audience participation was great and they even gave sweets out to the audience.

Well done Derby Theatre! A great production filled with fun for the Christmas season.
