I love a clean house, I feel relaxed and can rest when I know my home is clean and tidy. That’s why I jumped at the chance when I was asked to try out the Gtech AirRAM MK2 K9. It’s a cordless, bagless vacuum cleaner, designed for busy households with pets, so perfect for me, a mummy to both furry and non furry babies.

It was incredibly simple to assemble and I could probably have done it without the instructions to be honest. Most things just needed sliding and clicking in place, once the main handle was assembled it just had to be twisted and locked into place on the vacuum cleaner head. There is an upper and lower button on the handle to allow you to increase the height for use and decrease the height for storage. I really liked the fact that it was possible to reduce the height of the vacuum as it means I can pop the cleaner away in the cupboard or into the corner of the room and it not be in the way.

In terms of use there is just one button, operated by pushing on and off with your foot, there is also just one power setting. It really couldn’t be simpler. When it’s time to recharge you have two options. You can plug in the battery while it is still attached to the vacuum cleaner and stand the whole unit near the plug socket. Or, as I preferred, you can remove the battery and charge it separately from the main unit. This means you can pop the vacuum cleaner away and just leave the battery pack on to charge. To charge the battery fully takes approximately 4 hours and the charge lasts up to 40 minutes. There is an indicator to show you how much charge the battery has and if you want to just pop it on to charge for an hour or so for a quick cleaning burst then that works too. Green lights and you’re good to go, it changes red when the unit needs recharging.

In terms of use, the vacuum cleaner was easy to operate, it works on hard floor and carpets. I tested it out first on our main living area rug, the roller brush agitated the fibres allowing for quick effective removal of top layer and deeper layer dust and dirt then the AirLoc technology locks in place to allow for the vacuum cleaner to suck up embedded pet hair. I had used our current vacuum cleaner the day before so wasn’t expecting a huge amount, I was very impressed (and slightly disgusted) with how much hair and dirt was in the bin when I removed it to empty it. The AirLoc technology certainly did it’s job! It was so easy to remove the bin and then just a quick flick of a lever and I was able to empty the contents into the rubbish. I then tested it on the tiled kitchen floor and the laminate floor in our dining room. It’s suction was great and it cleaned right to the edges of the room. I found it was easy to reach under the table and chairs as the low profile reclining handle allows the unit to function even when flat to the floor, this was also great for getting under our sofa and television unit. The front of the vacuum cleaner includes lights, I thought this was a bit of a silly gimmick at first, but as I used it under the sofa it highlighted dusty areas so I could focus my energy in the right places, absolutely great for a deep clean.

This particular vacuum cleaner has cartridges inside the filter to add a little scent as you clean, I was slightly worried the scent would be very overpowering or artificial but it wasn’t at all. The scent just smells fresh and wasn’t too strong, the unit came with a scent cartridge already in the filter and also had a spare filter and five spare scent cartridges in the box. The filter needs cleaning once a month, or more often depending on frequency of use. It is easy to remove from the housing, it just pulled out from the bin and then I just ran warm water through it until it ran clear. I then popped it on a towel and left it to air dry completely before putting it back in. I also had a go at cleaning the brush bar. There is a release button on the side of the Vacuum cleaner head and you just push it in as you gently pull the brush to remove, easy. The vacuum cleaner even comes with a small knife/comb tool to help remove any stubborn wrapped hair, although I didn’t need to use this.

Things I like about the Gtech AirRAM MK2 K9:
• It is cordless. Great for a quick whizz round of the rug before visitors arrive.
• Transitions smoothly from carpeted areas to hard floor.
• Lies flat to allow and has lights, allowing cleaning under furniture such as the sofa to be more effective.
• Simple to change the height of the handle for easy storage.
• Easy to empty the contents of the bin, clear lid so you can see when it is nearing capacity.
• Simple to remove the filter and brush bar to clean.
• Light enough to carry around, up and down stairs, and manoeuver easily.

For a quick run around main areas I would highly recommend this vacuum cleaner, it cleaned very well, was quiet and quick to use and empty. It cleaned right to the edges of the room on both carpet and hard floor and left the rug looking fluffy and refreshed. I also loved how light the unit was whilst still being sturdy, it comes in at a total weight of just 3.3kg so is perfect if you need something lighter than an ordinary vacuum cleaner.

Overall I was very impressed with the Gtech AirRAM MK2 K9 and would highly recommend it if you are looking for a lightweight vacuum cleaner for those quick cleanups in a busy home.
