I was lucky enough to receive a Catherine Lansbury Canterbury bedspread to review, which I was really looking forward to as we’re heading into winter. I get so cold at times, and there’s absolutely no way I can sleep if I’m cold in bed. In winter you’ll usually find me tucked up with multiple blankets, fluffy socks, winter pyjamas, and a hot water bottle, so any extra layers are welcome! We have also just moved house, so I’m still deciding on the style I want in the bedroom as it’s quite a neutral space at the moment. So, when I saw that the bedspread was in grey and neutral floral colours, I thought that it would fit in well to the room.
When the bedspread arrived, it was packaged beautifully in a zip up bag to keep it clean and tidy on the way to my house. It opened easily and was folded up into a square. I shook out the bedspread, which was listed as a double, and was taken aback at the sheer size of it! I immediately took it up to my bedroom and put it on my bed, which is a double with a large frame. The bedspread reached almost to the floor on each side! I was only expecting it to fit the bed, but it was a lovely size to cover up any double bed and add a finishing touch.
I also realised that the bedspread is double sided, which I hadn’t noticed before. It is grey with large rose prints on one side and grey with white polka dots on the other, so you can mix up which size you want to display. I decided to put it on my bed with the polka dots face up, and then turn down the top end to show a peek of the roses, which I thought was quite effective.
As we all know, the temperatures have been dropping at night recently as we head into winter, so I was keen to see how much warmth the bedspread added. It is quilted but doesn’t appear thick, so I wasn’t sure how warm it would be. I was however proven very wrong, as the bedspread on top of my duvet kept me lovely and toasty all night! It also didn’t slip around and fall off the bed, so stayed put all night too.
A couple of days later I unfortunately had to wash the bedspread as one of my cats had walked on it with muddy feet. I threw it in the washing machine on a 40 degree wash (it says 30 degrees on the label – I’m a rebel!) and it came out fine. It also dried really easily in the tumble drier which is a big win for me, otherwise it would have been really difficult to dry.
It looks really nice in my room, and keeps me extra snug in bed on winter nights so I’m really pleased with the bedspread. Catherine Lansfield products are designed and developed in Great Britain; this particular one is made of 100% polyester.
