I was recently invited (with a plus one) to the Glasgow Marriott Hotel Relaunch Party on Thursday 12th September 2024. We were told the dress code was Urban Glamour which according to Google is “mixing casual and dressy pieces to create a look that is both fashionable and edgy”. On entering the venue, I could see straight away why they picked that dress code! The hotel has had a full refurb and is definitely looking very fashionable and edgy!
Even before stepping into the hotel, the event made a great first impression as we were greeted by a red carpet and the wonderful sounds of bagpipes and drums from ‘The Original Scottish Rock Band’ Drums & Roses. We immediately felt like VIPs as we walked up the red carpet, surrounded by people with cameras, our very own paparazzi!
Into the hotel lobby and reception, we were checked off the guest list, with a warm welcome, and handed a glass of Prosecco. Intriguingly, we were also told that once our glass was empty we were welcome to “ring the bell” for more! At the side of the lobby there was a large open cupboard with a lit up leafy looking backdrop and a table in front of it with a bell and a sign saying, “Ring for Prosecco”. Initially we thought this was quite a cute little gimmick and once the bell was rung, we expected a waiter to appear with a bottle. However, what we got was even more of a delightful surprise! From the middle of the leafy backdrop, a hand appeared as if by magic with a fresh glass of Prosecco! What a great idea! I would love one of them for my garden!
The reception lobby was absolutely stunning! Newly designed by local company Bell & Swift, they have given the hotel a very modern arty look which makes the hotel feel like brand new! They have based their design on Glasgow’s industrial heritage and modern culture, including the art murals which adorn historic buildings around Glasgow. (I recommend Glasgow’s mural walking tour!) What caught my eye immediately was the rows of dinner plates decorating the back wall of the reception with a striking pattern, which makes up the silhouettes of one of the most iconic Cranes in Glasgow and also the Clyde Arc (known locally as the Squinty Bridge). This sleek graffiti style theme continues throughout the hotel, on the carpets and furnishings.
At the beginning of the launch party, delicious canopies were handed out including duck parfait, haggis bonbons, smoked salmon and antipasti. We were then welcomed by the hotel manager Chris McGuiness. His Celtic charm shone threw as he introduced us to his team, thanked us all for coming and talked us through the new design of the hotel and what work had been done. Glasgow Singer Daniel Rooney (who recently supported Take That at the Ovo Hydro) then put on a great performance for us all, whilst we were invited to follow members of the staff for a private tour of the executive bedrooms.
The bedroom we saw was very spacious and modern, and included art work based on the Glasgow Murals, continuing the same graffiti style art work and furnishings we saw throughout the hotel. My favourite part of the room was the view out the window! Overlooking Glasgow’s city buildings and roads, it was that Iconic Glasgow view, I was hoping for! There was a big walk-in shower in the modern bathroom, which included large This Works toiletries on the walls (the staff member pointed out this was part of their ‘reduced waste’ policy).
Later on we were invited into the Clyde Suite where the Party feels were definitely brought! Local DJ Micheal Kilkie was on point with all the tunes for dancing, whilst food and drink was provided and sponsored by various Scottish companies, including Ben Lomond Gin, St Mungos and the West Brewery, and Braeheads foods. The food and drink was offered around the room in a Street Vendor Style allowing you to walk around and try a little taste of everything that took your fancy. There was Southern Fried Chicken, Mini Burgers, Fish & Chips, Nachos and Tacos, and separate gin, rum, beer and wine bars. My favourite was the Fish & Chips. They were delicious! There were some seating areas and a big dance floor. The Kilted Caricaturist was also there, offering free caricatures to guests (sadly I was too busy partying and missed my chance!). The relaxed layout of the room, allowed the many guests to mingle and enjoy the celebrations, these guests included local celebrities and influencers. Everyone seemed to be having a brilliant time and were very impressed by the hotel’s new look and vibe! Not only were the guests enjoying themselves but the hotel staff were too. All the staff we spoke to were very friendly and welcoming. They all provided a great service and definitely deserved to enjoy some of that free flowing Prosecco!
The Glasgow Marriott Hotel has definitely been given the best glow up I have ever seen and certainly knows how to throw a party! It’s location within walking distance from the city centre, transport links and main roads, make it the ideal venue, not just for the visiting tourist but also locals like me who want to enjoy some of their Urban Glam!
