I love anything that gets my kids out exploring the world so when given the chance to review the Geosafari Vega 360 Telescope I was very excited! I have always wanted to get a telescope for my boys but the idea of having a big heavy telescope that is really tricky to set up put me off. This product is neither and I was so impressed with it.
The telescope says it is for ages 8+ however with adult help my 5 year old could use it and really enjoyed it. Recently he has become very interested in Space and when he saw this he was so excited. The set up was straightforward and easy. Everything came in one box and it was all clearly labeled with diagrams. The instructions were easy to follow and it only took about 10 minutes for my husband to set up without our son ‘helping’. We received the telescope at the perfect time as Comet NEOWISE is visible from the UK at the minute and we were planning a night to go see it. You can see it with the naked eye but you really have to know what you are looking for so a telescope is recommended.
After trying the telescope out in the garden to get the hang of it my husband and son went up to a tall hill at sunset to see what they could see. My son was so excited! Being 5 he was not able to find anything independently but we really didn’t expect him to be able to. I would think an older child with a bit of practice would get the hang of it pretty quickly and be able to use the Geosafari Vega 360 Telescope just fine. The telescope’s features made it really easy for my husband to locate what they wanted to look at and then ‘lock it in place’ so my son could then look. This worked really and they were able to see the moon very clearly and some stars. They were also able to see the comet – their main goal!! They used a phone app alongside the telescope to identify the stars that they were looking at. We don’t know much about stars and which one is which so using the phone app alongside the telescope made identifying what they were looking at very easy.
We loved this telescope and it was great as a first telescope to get children exploring space. It is not complicated to use and very lightweight making it easy to transport if taking it away from the house. It also comes with a tabletop tripod so you don’t have to hold it in place making it much easier to use. Storage for this telescope was really good. It is not the type of toy you use everyday (in the two weeks we have had it we have only had two clear nights) so being able to put it away and keep it safe is important. You can put everything back in the labelled boxes and into the bigger box that it came with so you don’t lose any of the pieces. We were very pleased with this product and would give it 5/5 stars. It’s the perfect first telescope for children and the whole family.
