As a Mum of two school aged children I have, like so many of us Mums, had to take on the tough role of teacher and provide an education for them at home during parts of both this school year and last. Therefore I am always looking out for educational resources to aid us and make our schooling more hands on. I have previously bought and used many products from Learning Resources having found them to be of the highest quality and engaging for both my children despite a difference in ages.

So, I was excited to be sent the GeoSafari Jr. Kidnoculars Extreme from Learning Resources to try out at home this week. On first unboxing the Kidnoculars extreme my first opinion was that they were bright and fun looking and looked sturdy and good quality. They were very easy to set up only needing two AA batteries (not included) then they were ready to use.

I have a five year old son who is fascinated by all things animals and nature with bird spotting being one of his favourite hobbies I often find him watching the birds in our garden and looking them up in a bird spotters book. This is a passion I like to try and encourage as much as I can. During our learning from home I quickly discovered that it was good for us to take a break from focused learning and go for a walk but the same route around our small town soon got tedious. So being able to bring these binoculars has added a hands on practical approach to our learning incorporating science into our daily exercise. They have also made our walks much more fun!

The GeoSafari Jr Kidnoculars extreme are wonderful. They are very well made, strong and robust which is great for my youngest son who can often play quite rough with his toys! Yet despite this they are very lightweight and easy to grip making them perfect for young explorers. With not needing to focus the lens at all they are very simple to use which made my son happy as he likes to be independent. Suitable for 5-9 year olds I think we will get years of use out of these with my eldest son, at 8 years old, also keen to have a go.

However the best feature of these kid friendly binoculars is the built In microphone and speakers. The microphone picks up the sounds around you and this is also magnified and heard through the speakers. There is even a dial to alter the volume. My son had a look of amazement on his face to be able to also hear what he was watching.

Overall we are really impressed with these and can’t wait to take them on our next adventure. They retail at £22.50 which I think is very reasonable. I only wish I’d known about them sooner during last years lockdown learning.
