Fuze Wheel Writer Deluxe Review
Wheel Writer Deluxe
Reviewed by Jenny Seymour
My son is 7½ and loves being on his bike, so he was so excited when I said we had the opportunity to review the Wheel Writer Deluxe. He was meeting the postman every day waiting for it to arrive and when it did, the package didn’t disappoint! It had him eager for me or his dad to help him install it and test it. The packaging is attractive and clearly shows an amazing picture of what the Wheel Writer can do to entice children to want this on their bike – how exciting! It is clear from the package that this will only work on bikes which are 20” or more.
Unfortunately for us, this month has been one of the wettest Junes in history and so we didn’t have the opportunity to try it as soon as we liked, but the Wheel Writer is water resistant, so if you are game enough to go out in the rain and you have someone to look at your wheels (!), then I’m sure it would be fun, but we’ve not tried it in the rain!
It was quite fiddly to fit the Wheel Writer. I couldn’t do it on my own and my dad came to help. Between the two of us though, the instructions were very clear and we were able to get the Wheel Writer lined up and ready to go. All the parts that you need are in the package apart from a screwdriver. There are actually also videos online that you can download to show you step-by-step how to install it.
You can choose from the programmed images or create your own (but you do need the Wheel Writer app on your iPhone or iPod to do that). We’ve not downloaded the app yet and so far are making do with the images already on the Wheel Writer. There are over 50 images built into the Wheel Writer.
The Wheel Writer Deluxe has an additional feature, which personally I think is the best bit of it – it has its own speedo! My little boy loves to know how fast he is going and the box talks of challenging your friends to see who can ride the fastest – my little boy prefers to challenge himself and see if he can improve his speed on each go of the track.
Practically, it is quite hard to see the image or numbers shining out from the wheels and, as the supervising adult desperately looking for the speed he was going you have to look closely to see it, but even just with the LED lights flashing as you pedal, my son thought it was a great addition to his bike and a unique way to customize your child’s bike.
I would probably say that this is better for older children (it recommends 8 years +) who can pedal very fast, as the faster you go it is easier to see the image and numbers (works best when cycling 10 miles per hour or more).
All in all a great way of customising your child’s bike – although it is a bit fiddly to install and difficult to see the image itself in broad daylight.
Requires 3x AAA batteries.
