This is a good British comedy which ran from 1989-1991. It stars Julia McKenzie and Anton Rodgers as husband and wife, Hester and William. This is a spin off from the popular Fresh Fields sitcom that sees the Fields move to France after William is offered a job there for twice the money.
It follows the lives and exploits of the Fields giving some good laughs along the way as Hester’s French is not very good. William gets arrested for picking up some cheese, Hester gets a job teaching French children English in a French school, they get into arguments with their French neighbour Monsieur Dax who also turns out to be the local Mayor. They also have some English snobbish neighbours which also create problems and some laughs.
While not side splittingly funny it is very easy to watch and get involved with the characters, there are some good laughs along the way. It was quite enjoyable and good family viewing. Would make a good gift not just for people that remember the original Fresh Fields and French Fields, but also new viewers as the characters are great and the jokes are still funny. It was very well acted and a joy to watch.
