I was really keen to try these exfoliating socks as I have lots of hard, dead skin on my feet and despite regularly applying copious amounts of moisturiser a couple of areas have reached the stage of being painful. I’ve tried similar, cheaper, products in the past and disliked them because they smelled horrible and didn’t actually work.

The Footner website states that…
‘Footner is your perfect at home pedicure beauty product! Naturally peel away any dry and hard skin build up on your feet with one easy 60-minute application. After 7-10 days reveal smooth, soft and pedicure perfect feet that you can be proud of.’

Thus I was hopeful that a brand dedicated to feet would show better results and be more effective than my previous experience. I wasn’t disappointed!

Each pair of socks is single use only. The plastic socks come with the liquid already in them. I would like to see a more environmentally friendly product with the option of a reusable version of the socks and the liquid sold in bottles so you pour it into the socks yourself. I have no idea if this is feasible but perhaps it is something Footner are already investigating and I will get my wish at some point in the future.

The exfoliating socks came in a box with an instruction sheet giving a step by step guide to getting pedicure perfect feet. I also received a #feelthepeel card with the main ten steps of the instructions printed slightly larger. The instructions were clear and easy to follow each step of the way. I dutifully soaked my feet before opening the socks and cutting along the line indicated. I then followed the next instructions to put the socks on, carefully using the tape to close them and I sat down to watch the television for the required sixty minutes treatment time. I was pleasantly surprised that there was little smell from the liquid, nothing like as smelly or as horrible as previous foot mask products I’ve tried before. It’s recommended you walk around in the socks as little as possible to avoid slipping or spillage of the liquid. My alarm sounded to let me know my hour was up and I very carefully and slowly made my way up the stairs and to the bathroom to remove the socks and rinse my feet in the shower. Tip: it’s probably a good idea to bring scissors to the bathroom to open the socks and to stay near the bathroom rather than have to navigate stairs at the end of the treatment.

The instructions stated it would take a few days to start to see results and ten to fourteen days for the full experience so I was surprised to notice a spot of skin between my toes already peeling. It’s suggested you don’t use moisturiser during the process as this can reduce its effect.

By day three the most painful lump of hard skin in my heel, that one that peels slightly after every shower but never goes away, had softened and started to peel. Some areas of my feet had started to feel itchy but surprisingly I wasn’t feeling the usual dryness that I often feel and had not yet needed to reach for my moisturiser, which is just as well as moisturising during the exfoliation can reduce its effect. It is now day five since I used these Footner exfoliating socks and my feet are still peeling and shedding dead skin. Areas that I don’t normally notice dead skin on are soft and smooth and even the often painful areas which I always have hard skin on are softer! The painful patches have actually stopped hurting and are smaller than before.

I would definitely recommend this product and I will be using these socks again. In fact I’ve already added them to an online purchase. They are available at Boots, Superdrug and Lloyds pharmacy as well as Amazon. They can be used every 2-3 months, with a minimum of 3-4 weeks between treatments, to keep feet pedicure perfect. People with sensitive skin, especially to alcohol ingredients, shouldn’t use this product. Nor should they be used by children under twelve, those with diabetes or with certain foot conditions such as athletes foot. Pregnant and nursing women as well as people who suffer from poor circulation should speak to their doctor before using. It’s also recommended you avoid direct sunlight for two weeks after treatment as new skin is more sensitive to the sun. The Footner website has a clear FAQ section if you have any questions or are unsure if they are suitable.
